PSG ready to prise away Liverpool crown jewel as report claims ace has dined with Nasser al-Khelaifi

Liverpool face a battle to retain the services of one of the club’s prized assets this summer amid claims the player recently held dinner with Nasser al-Khelaifi and is a summer target for PSG.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are struggling to find their consistent best this season. Currently down in 10th place, the Reds have won just eight of their 19 games played so far this season. That said, they could climb up fifth with a win at Wolves on Saturday.

As it stands, though, they remain 10 points behind Manchester United in fourth already. And if they are to close that gap, significant improvements will be needed over the second half of the season.

The Merseysiders have a superb European record since Klopp’s appointment in 2015. And having reached three Champions League finals under the German’s reign, they will hope to reach a fourth this season. To that end, they face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the competition later this month.

That will give Klopp’s men a chance to avenge last season’s defeat in the final.

Beating Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be far from easy, however. And Los Blancos seem to hold an edge over Liverpool, having also beaten them in the 2018 final and having KO’d them in the 2021 quarter-finals.

In order to get back to their best, Liverpool will hope for a return to form from talismanic attacker Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian – so often Liverpool’s go-to man – has 16 goals to his name this season. However, he is currently enduring something of a barren patch, scoring just once in their last seven matches.

Mohamed Salah linked with PSG transfer

His struggles are probably not helped by another new face coming into the Liverpool attack. And while January signing Cody Gakpo is yet to open his account for the Reds, Klopp will hope the pair soon strike a good understanding.

Salah’s contract at Anfield was extended last summer after plenty of debate and conjecture over his future. Worth a reported £350,000 a week, Salah is contracted to Liverpool to June 2025.

However, despite turning 31 later this year, the Liverpool star would still be a player of huge appeal were he to ever leave.

And with Gakpo now on the scene, the Liverpool pair are competing with Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz for starting spot.

Klopp will surely struggle to keep all six players happy. And with Sadio Mane departing last year for Bayern Munich, a shock report claims Salah could be the next man through the exit door.

According to Goal, PSG are interested in signing Salah this summer. Furthermore, the Daily Mirror claims the Egyptian also recently dined with PSG owner al-Khelaifi. And that strengthens claims they will try and prise the crown jewel from Anfield.

Now Calciomercato has added to claims that Salah will depart with a big claim that Liverpool are open to his sale for the right price.

Liverpool need to rebuild midfield

Liverpool need to rebuild their midfield this summer after a difficult season. And it’s reported that Salah could be allowed to leave to help fund at least two blockbuster deals.

Quite what Liverpool would value Salah at remains to be seen. But it would surely cost a fee well of around £89.8m (€100m) for Liverpool to even contemplate his sale.

Indeed, having offered him a new deal, Liverpool seemingly see nothing but a future with their prized star in tow.

Since arriving in a bargain £36.9m move from Roma in 2017, Salah has 173 goals in 284 games. While reaching a double century looks tough this season, who would back against him.
