PSG are reportedly in contact with Adrien Rabiot over a surprise return to the club in January amid claims Juventus are still intent on cashing in on the midfielder when the window reopens.
The France midfielder falls out of contract at the Allianz Stadium in June, with Juventus eager to cash in. Indeed, they came close to selling Rabiot to Manchester United over the summer, only for negotiations over personal terms falter.
But PSG are keen to step in and sense an opportunity to strike his bargain signing.
As per Calciomercato, Juventus have received the first contact from representatives of the Ligue 1 giants. They are reportedly looking to bring Rabiot back to his boyhood club just four years after his departure.
With his deal at the Parc des Princes expiring, Rabiot moved to Turin as a free agent in July 2019. Since then, he’s made 133 appearances for Juve, becoming a fixture in their side. However, he’s never truly convinced their supporters and it seems few would shed a tear were he to depart.
Now, with negotiations over a new deal at Juve failing to see an agreement reached, Rabiot looks to be on the move again.
And while talks with his agent and mother Veronique stalling with United, a report recently suggested a January move could be resurrected.
After his failure to land Rabiot, Erik ten Hag turned instead to Casemiro. However, the feeling in Italy is that United still remain keen. As such, they could look to relaunch efforts to sign him.
They might not be alone either, with Liverpool also tipped for a potential move.
Jurgen Klopp’s side remain short in the midfield department and are reportedly considering Rabiot as an option.
Adrien Rabiot linked with Liverpool move
Indeed, the £15m that Juventus are reportedly commanding would cost Liverpool less than it would for Arthur.
The Brazilian joined the Reds on deadline day on loan with an option to make the move a permanent £32.3m move next summer. However, reports suggest Liverpool remain unconvinced by Arthur and may look to cut the loan short at the first opportunity.
And knowing Rabiot could arrive for half that fee might present a solution to all parties.
However, a move to Anfield remains an unlikely scenario.
Furthermore, Calciomercato reckons it is a move to PSG that looks the most likely scenario.
Their coach Christophe Galtier is seemingly keen to bring the player back to the Ligue 1 giants, with talks already underway.
And while agreeing a fee with his Juventus is unlikely to present too many issues, the main hurdle is likely to come from his mother.
Rabiot snr is reportedly seeking an increase on her son’s £6m-a-year salary. Currently earning around £112,000 a week, she is reportedly wanting wages of nearer £125,000 a week and on a four-year deal.
That salary is comfortably withing PSG’s reach. But the question is not whether they can afford it and more about whether they want to pay such an amount.
But if an agreement can be reached, Rabiot could well return to Paris before the January window is out.
