Liverpool told which ‘massive signing’ would rival Erling Haaland to Man City and help Klopp’s men ‘kick on’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp celebrates victory during the Premier League match at Anfield, Liverpool

A pundit reckons Liverpool should complete the ‘massive signing’ of Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, in a transfer which would compete with Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City in terms of profile.

Bellingham and Haaland were team-mates at Dortmund last season. They were involved in 49 goals between them as BVB finished second in the German Bundesliga.

Haaland was briefly tipped to join Liverpool, although Chelsea and City were always more likely suitors for the striker. He went on to link up with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad as City paid £51.2million for his signature.

The Norwegian will help City as they aim to keep the Premier League title from the clutches of Liverpool. Guardiola also wants to end the club’s curse in the Champions League and believes Haaland will be key to this.

Liverpool have brought in their own goalscorer, Uruguay international Darwin Nunez. He cost an initial £64m when signing from Benfica. The move could be worth £85m if certain clauses are met, making him potentially Liverpool’s record signing.

Both players have found their feet and got amongst in the goals in pre-season. They are now set for an exciting showdown in the Premier League and in European competition.

However, former player Frank McAvennie thinks Liverpool should raid Dortmund for Bellingham too.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, the Reds are making progress when it comes to landing the English midfielder.

Liverpool can ‘kick on’ by signing Jude Bellingham

And McAvennie wants Liverpool to come in and bring more youth to Klopp’s midfield, in a move which would compete with Haaland’s switch to City.

“[Jordan] Henderson is 30 plus now, Fabinho is also getting older,” the pundit told Football Insider.

“Football is about youngsters now especially in the midfield. Jude Bellingham is a wonderful talent.

“If Liverpool can get him, that’s a big signing. It’s a massive signing and it will give them the encouragement to kick on.

“It’s a lot of new faces, a new team, there’s already some wonderful talent in there. I think that would be one of the biggest signings of the season outside Man City bringing in Haaland. It would be sensational.”

Liverpool bringing Bellingham to the Premier League would certainly be an exceptional capture. The 19-year-old is a target for Real Madrid, who will put up serious competition for his services.

However, Liverpool are positioning themselves at the front of the queue for when the bidding war starts next summer.

Despite his tender age, Bellingham is already a quality player. He boasts a maturity on the pitch not many teenagers can manage.

He has won 15 caps for England so far and is likely to feature regularly at the World Cup in Qatar. Plus, he has a wealth of top-flight experience, having made 61 Bundesliga outings to date.

If Liverpool want to get under City’s skin and bring in one of the world’s best young players, then signing Bellingham would be the perfect way to do it.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has given the latest on Roberto Firmino’s future, amid links with Juventus.
