Real Madrid ramp up Tchouameni transfer contact as expert confirms Liverpool are lingering threat

Aurelien Tchouameni celebrates scoring for Monaco

Real Madrid have opened talks with Monaco for the transfer of Liverpool midfield target Aurelien Tchouameni, it has been claimed.

Tchouameni has emerged as one of European football’s most promising prospects in recent seasons. The midfielder has only enhanced his reputation across 50 appearances for Monaco in the 2021-22 season.

Under contract there until 2024, this may be the best summer for them to sell. If not, his price could decline as the final year of his contract nears.

But in terms of his ability, Tchouameni is only going in one direction – and that is up. Therefore, Monaco may not be able to keep him around much longer.

Tchouameni has recently confirmed he would welcome either Real Madrid or Liverpool as his next destination. He is believed to be a genuine target for both of the Champions League finalists.

But winners Real Madrid could have the advantage for Tchouameni, even if recent reports of an agreement have been found to be premature.

That said, talks are underway between Madrid, Monaco and Tchouameni, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano. Yet Liverpool remain in the race – as do Paris Saint-Germain.

Romano tweeted: “Key week ahead for Aurelien Tchouameni deal.

“Real Madrid had new contacts with club and player side during the weekend, before and after the Champions League final.

“Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are still on it – Real are in now in direct talks with Monaco.”

Clearly, the 22-year-old has the world at his feet. Targeted by three of European football’s major forces, there are expectations that he can enjoy a long career at the highest level.

Tchouameni can reach top with Real Madrid

By winning a 14th European Cup, Madrid may have just proven they are at the very pinnacle. Therefore, they may be the most appealing destination.

They will need to evolve a midfield that consists of three starters in their 30s – Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos. With that in mind, they signed Eduardo Camavinga last summer, and could yet go down the French route again.

Winning the race for Tchouameni would be a statement of intent from Real. Therefore, Liverpool must act fast if they want to get their hands on him.

Like their European conquerors, Liverpool have an ageing midfield of Fabinho (28), Jordan Henderson (31) and Thiago Alcantara (31). Like their Real counterparts, all remain influential players, but an eye to the future is necessary.

Tchouameni is going to strengthen any side he joins. But if it does turn out to be Real, Liverpool would have to look elsewhere.
