Liverpool could do what Arsenal couldn’t in signing Dusan Vlahovic, as Jurgen Klopp is ‘willing to do anything’ to land the ‘perfect’ striker.
Vlahovic has been plying his trade with Juventus since January. He was a highly coveted player before he made the move to the Serie A giants.
Indeed, he had bagged 21 goals for Fiorentina in the league the previous season. In the first half of last season, he notched 17 goals in 21 games, as well as registering four assists.
North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham both had the striker on their shortlists.
The Gunners looked very keen to snare Vlahovic – they were in the hunt for the Serbian for a long time, as they felt he would be a perfect striker for the long-term.
However, they were left angered when the striker made a move to Juventus. The Serie A giants paid Fiorentina around £70million for the star.
Vlahovic has been putting up good numbers during his time with the Old Lady. In 15 league appearances for the club last season, he netted seven times, as well as providing one assist.
So far this term, he has scored six league goals and chipped in with one assist in 10 games.
Klopp desparate for Vlahovic snare
While they were not publicly interested before, it seems Liverpool could be a potential next destination for Vlahovic. Indeed, calciomercatoweb reports that Reds boss Klopp has ‘always been an admirer’ of the forward.
That report suggests the manager is ‘willing to do anything’ to sign Vlahovic. Indeed, he would seemingly be an ideal addition to the Liverpool side, as Klopp feels he would be ‘perfect’ for his system.
The Reds have only just made it up to sixth in the Premier League, having struggled for much of the season. Indeed, an injection of quality could be required to see them maintain their position back at the top end of the table.
Vlahovic has shown over the past couple of years that he is one of the best strikers in Europe. That is something Liverpool cannot say they possess at present.
Roberto Firmino has notched nine goals in all competitions this season. However, the 31-year-old has failed to net 10 Premier League goals in each of the last three seasons.
While Darwin Nunez has found form, he may be better suited on the left wing. Vlahovic could be the striker Liverpool need to ensure they are competitive in seasons to come, rather than dropping off.
Liverpool have transfer formula in mind
Klopp is reportedly ‘convinced’ that he can get Vlahovic. He will apparently use Ibrahima Konate as part of the deal to sign the Juventus star.
The Frenchman, who only joined in 2021, has reportedly failed to ‘fully convince’ Klopp. As such, the German will ‘structure an exchange’ sending him to Juve, with Vlahovic going the other way, to Anfield.
The report does not state whether there will be a cash sum along with Konate. However, given the centre-back cost almost half what Vlahovic did, it is likely the Reds would need to supplement the deal with some funds.
With that being said, the transfer could be easier still. Indeed, Juventus are under investigation for violations of Financial Fair Play regulations, which could lead to some assets being sold.
The Turin outfit might not be in a position to make demands if that is the case. As such, Liverpool might well go where Arsenal couldn’t in landing Vlahovic, and potentially for a cut-price fee, too.
