Liverpool considering shock triple raid on Bayern Munich with 53-times capped Germany star added to Klopp wishlist
Liverpool are reportedly looking into three possible signings from Bayern Munich this summer as Jurgen Klopp continues to explore options to bolster his midfield.
The Reds have already splashed out close to £100m with the additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. But with four departures announced before the 2022/23 season had finished, the Reds boss always intended to sign at least three midfielders.
However, the landscape at Anfield has shifted further with both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson set to depart for Saudi Arabia. Long-serving captain Henderson is poised to sign for Al Ettifaq on an astonishing £700,000 a week deal.
Fabinho, meanwhile, is set to sign for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Al-Ittihad. Described as a Liverpool “revolution” by Fabrizio Romano, the journalist claims both deals should net Liverpool a combined £50m.
As a result of their impending departures, Liverpool now reportedly plan three more midfield additions. To that end, an exciting report on Tuesday said Klopp has drawn up a new five-man list of targets.
Two of that proposed quintent ply their trade abroad in the form of Khephren Thuram and Kouadio Kone.
However, two more options have also emerged of late from Bayern Munich. And with the Bundesliga champions looking to finance deals for England duo Kyle Walker and Harry Kane, they’re willing to offload a number of unwanted stars.
As a result, Ryan Gravenberch – who was on Liverpool’s wanted list last summer – is now being strongly linked with a move to Anfield.
Amid claims he could leave for a fee of €30m (£25.8m), Gravenberch would not break the bank at Liverpool.
Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk also suggests Joshua Kimmich is also back on Liverpool’s radar after a U-turn by Bayern.
Journalist claims Liverpool also want Leon Goretzka
In addition to those two Bayern stars, a third name from the Bundesliga champions has also now been thrown into the mix.
And amid claims the Bavarians are looking to cash in on Leon Goretzka, Klopp is reportedly looking to make a move.
That’s the verdict of transfer journalist Graeme Bailey. Speaking to the Talking Transfers podcast, Bailey shares what he knows about the 53-times capped Germany star.
“We may see an exit in there, but Gravenberch remains the most likely,” Bailey said. “I don’t think Bayern would mind it being Goretzka, because he would come with a hefty price tag. But I don’t think he’s in a massive hurry to leave which is why we’re not seeing [his name linked too strongly].
“[But] If he was available, we’re seeing United linked to [Sofyan] Amrabat and Liverpool linked to all sorts, if Goretzka was available he’d be very high on United and Liverpool’s list. Very high!”
Standing at 6ft 2in, the 28-year-old comes with a raft of top-level experience. In addition to his half-century of caps, he has also spent five seasons at Bayern, playing in 36 Champions League games and winning 13 trophies in that time.
The serial-winner, however, would not come cheap. With his deal expiring in 2026, Bayern would reportedly only consider offers in the region of €50m (£43m). West Ham are among those reportedly tracking the midfielder as a replacement for Declan Rice.
