Liverpool given concrete hope of signing £70m midfielder Jurgen Klopp is hanging his baseball cap on this summer

Liverpool appear to have been given hope that they can land one of Jurgen Klopp’s top midfield targets this summer following a report on Monday evening.

The Reds boss has made revamping his engine room his top priority after a season of struggle that has left the club battling just to get into the top four in the closing stages of the campaign.

Renowned for their energy and pressing from the middle of the park in previous campaigns, that side of Liverpool’s game appears to have virtually disappeared as an aging midfield struggles to compete week in and week out.

That has led the German to already begin planning for next season. And while a move for top target Jude Bellingham seems almost certainly off the cards, given Dortmund’s current stance on the England man, Klopp does have other targets he is pursuing.

One of those is impressive Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister, and according to the latest rumours that deal could happen.

Football Insider states that the 24-year-old World Cup winner is the most likely of the Seagulls’ top stars to move on at the end of the season, as his contract continues to run down.

The Argentina international’s current deal will have two years left to run from this summer leaving Brighton ‘vulnerable’ to bids if the player actively starts pushing to leave.

It’s understood that Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus are all in the running to sign Mac Allister this summer. Meanwhile, Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has also urged his current club to make a move for his international teammate.

Football Insider reported earlier in March that the player is ‘ready to go’ to a bigger club, with Brighton likely to ask for around £70million for his services.

Mac Allister among quartet of Brighton stars in sale talk

However, Mac Allister is not the only Brighton star being targeted by big clubs, with Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma and breakout striker Evan Ferguson also attracting major attention.

It makes sense though that the Argentine is the likeliest to leave, given the status of the other three.

Caicedo, who was chased by Arsenal and Liverpool in January, has already signed a new four-year contract at the Amex Stadium – while Mitoma and Ferguson are set for imminent talks about potential extensions after their rapid rises.

Winger Solly March has also extended his deal until 2026 following interest from Newcastle United.

Brighton have made a healthy profit out of selling some of their top names recently, including the likes of Ben White, Yves Bissouma, Marc Cucurella and Leandro Trossard.

And it appears that Mac Allister could be next in line, if the player wants out and Brighton decide to cash in again.

That would be potentially huge news for Liverpool, if the midfielder ends up on Merseyside. However, with so many clubs likely to be in the mix for signature, Klopp may have some convincing to do that he is ready to get the Reds back on track.
