Liverpool look to exciting Prem midfielder as revamp will start with £50million outlay

Liverpool are reportedly ‘in the picture’ for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, who will reportedly command a £50million fee in the summer.

Liverpool’s midfield has been one of the main sticking points in their season. Fabinho has played the most minutes of any midfielder at the club this term.

Former Reds man Jamie Redknapp said in March he believed he’d “gone over the edge,” suggesting he’s no longer right for the club.

The next most minutes of a midfielder have been from Harvey Elliott, who is a promising young talent. Next on the list are Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner – the youngest of that group is 31 years old.

Indeed, it seems the midfield region has gone stale and is in need of a revamp. That’s reinforced by the Reds’ league position – eighth.

Adding one or two, or maybe even more, younger talents into the mix could completely change Liverpool’s fortunes.

It’s obvious they’re going to go after Jude Bellingham in the summer. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been linked with the Reds for some time, and it looks like they’re in a good position to land him.

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs feels the Reds will be able to blow Real Madrid “out of the water” in the pursuit of the star.

Liverpool in the picture for Palhinha

However, one new signing might not be enough to see any real change. As such, it seems Liverpool have their eyes on another exciting midfield player to bolster their ranks.

GIVEMESPORT reports the Reds are ‘in the picture’ for Fulham midfielder Palhinha. What’s more, interest in the star is ‘expected to ramp up towards the end of the season’.

That report suggests Klopp is ready to ‘dive into the market this summer’ in an attempt to ‘fix a squad that has failed to live up to expectations’.

It also mentions the potential of the signing of Bellingham, but adds the Reds will ‘probably look into signing two midfielders’. As such, Palhinha is a fitting option, and his ‘brilliant campaign in West London has caught the eye’.

The report suggests it would take ‘upwards of £50million’ to secure him. Given Liverpool’s need to improve, they might be willing to spend that sort of money.

Palhinha would add to Liverpool talent

At 27 years of age, Palhinha should be playing some of his best football for the next few seasons. That seems to have started already, as the midfielder has been one of Fulham’s most influential assets this term.

His form has contributed to the fact the newly-promoted side are currently 10th.

A move to a bigger side might only elevate his levels of performance. Indeed, he’s done well with a big side while playing for Portugal, for whom he’s appeared 20 times.

As such, were Liverpool to sign him, he might well be what they’re looking for as part of the midfield revamp.

Were they to snare Bellingham as well, they’d have a very solid midfield all of a sudden.
