Liverpool receive ‘very good offer’ for star Klopp no longer trusts; surprise link-up with Man Utd icon on the cards

Liverpool midfielders Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcanatara’s future at Liverpool faces what will likely be a crucial seven days amid reports that a sizeable offer for his services has been lodged.

The Merseysiders endured their most disappointing season of Jurgen Klopp’s eight campaigns at the helm last time out. Indeed, a stuttering run of form saw Liverpool ultimately finish down in fifth place and facing Europa League football again next season. Having also failed to make any sort of impression in their three cup competitions too, the 2022/23 campaign will go down as one to forget for their fans.

However, there were green shoots of recovery in the closing weeks of the season. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shift into midfield gave him, and Liverpool, a new lease of life. And with Cody Gakpo finding his form, together with a return to fitness for Luis Diaz, hopes are high that the 2023/24 campaign will be far more successful.

In addition, Klopp has swiftly moved to inject new energy into Liverpool’s main weakness last season: midfield. Traditionally a strong suit for the Reds, their ageing and lifeless engine room found themselves outfought and out-thought on a few too many occasions. Indeed, a 3-0 loss at Brighton, as well as a 2-1 home defeat to Leeds are perhaps best indicative of that drop-off.

The Reds, though, have moved quickly in response. James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all left at the end of their contracts. And with Arthur Melo sent back to Juventus, the Reds will have a new look next season.

To that end, both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have signed for a combined £95m. However, it seems the Reds are far from finished on that front with another deal in the region of £50m closing in.

Galatasaray make big approach for Liverpool star Thiago

However, it seems Liverpool’s rebuild is not stopping yet. And reports of late suggest Klopp is willing to listen to offers for Spanish star Thiago Alcantara.

The 32-year-old was a £20m signing from Bayern Munich in September 2020 and soon made his impact felt. But in the last 12 months, injuries and a loss of form have curtailed his influence for both Klopp and Liverpool.

And with his deal at Anfield due to expire in summer 2024, Sky Sports News reporter Melissa Reddy claims Liverpool are open to offers for the midfielder.

Predictably, Thiago has been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia. Indeed, Reds icon Roberto Firmino also recently moved to the Middle East.

However, according to reports in Turkey, the first official move for his services has actually come from Galatasaray. The Istanbul outfit are once again champions of Turkey following some ambitious recruitment over the past 12 months. Indeed, the likes of Juan Mata and Mauro Icardi are two of their more high-profile recruits of late.

Now Gala want to pair Thiago up with Man Utd icon Mata in an experienced central midfield.

Per reports, the Turkish champions’ vice-president Erden Timur has already held talks over a move for Thiago. Now they are reportedly ready to accelerate talks with officials from the club due to arrive in England on Monday.

And there is a confidence that a deal can be struck amid claims Galatasaray have made ‘a very good offer’ for the player.

Thiago was limited to just 18 Premier League appearances last season and Klopp will reportedly look to move him on.

Thiago Alcantara transfer: Fabrizio Romano provides update

With Galatasaray stepping up the pursuit, a decision on his future may arrive in days.

Discussing Thiago’s future, Fabrizio Romano claims a firm bid is yet to materialise.

Furthermore, speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Romano claims Thiago’s preference is actually to stay at Anfield.

“Liverpool, it’s crucial to understand what happens with the midfielders. There remains rumours on Thiago but from what I am hearing, it’s not something concrete as of today – but this could change,” Romano explained.

“Maybe some Saudi club arrives and puts in a bid for crazy money. But the approaches from Saudi for Thiago, from what I am hearing, were like four or five weeks ago… And they were just some calls, not proper bids or advanced negotiations.

“Also because from what I am hearing the absolute priority of Thiago is to continue with Liverpool. If Liverpool change their mind we will see. But at the moment, they have every intention to continue together next season.”

Paul Merson, however, feels Liverpool need to move Thiago and Jordan Henderson on this summer.

“Liverpool are crying out for legs in midfield. We saw what happened to them last season,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“The likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are at the fag end of their careers. They need more than just Mac Allister to become a force to be reckoned with again.

“I haven’t seen enough of Dominik Szoboszlai to pass a judgment. But if you’re a Liverpool fan, you’d be hoping he has the legs to give them what they missed dearly last season.”
