Robbie Fowler sets Liverpool trophy ambitions and makes ‘one of the best’ claim

Jurgen Klopp, Arsenal v Liverpool March 2022

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has made an admission about their trophy hopes and labelled Jurgen Klopp’s team ‘one of the best ever’.

The Reds won the Carabao Cup in February by beating Chelsea on penalties at Wembley. That came after an entertaining 0-0 draw in normal time.

Liverpool have also enjoyed an exceptional run in the Premier League, winning their last nine matches consecutively.

In that time, Liverpool have scored 24 goals and conceded just three.

And they could become the first English club to win the quadruple. Klopp’s men are through to the FA Cup semi-final and will come up against Benfica in the last eight of the Champions League.

Fowler made 369 appearances for Liverpool during two spells at Anfield, scoring 183 goals.

Robbie Fowler heaps praise on current Liverpool team

During an interview with French outlet L’Express (via Sport Witness), the striker-turned-pundit was asked about his former club. He made a big claim about the current team being ‘one of the best ever’, and also spoke about their trophy ambitions.

“You know, as a Liverpool fan, what you see with this team, what they do together, you can say they are arguably one of the best Liverpool teams ever,” Fowler said.

“They deserve to win several trophies. They have a chance of winning the championship this year.

“They are even capable of winning all the trophies or getting the treble because they are really good. Certainly, as a former pro player, we can say that if you win difficult matches, it means that you are doing well.

“This is what the players and the fans wanted. No one at Liverpool can complain about that. The more difficult matches we play, the more it means that we are successful.”

Liverpool return to action after the international break by facing Watford on Merseyside this weekend. After that, they come up against Benfica in the first leg of their UCL quarter-final.

A big part of the tie will be Benfica’s ability to keep Mo Salah at bay. And their left-back, Alex Grimaldo, is reportedly taking extra measures to get the better of his upcoming opponent…
