Roberto Firmino claims recent Liverpool signing is ‘star’ in making, explaining how he has already impressed
Roberto Firmino believes new Liverpool teammate Fabio Carvalho is a ‘star’ in the making, explaining how he can benefit the club.
Carvalho is already beginning to make something of an impression at Liverpool after joining from Fulham over the summer. Competing for a place as an attacking midfielder, he already has two goals from six Premier League appearances for the club.
It has not been the most enjoyable start to the season for Jurgen Klopp’s side, despite their triumph in the Community Shield. But Carvalho is one player who has taken the new term in his stride, adapting quickly to his new surroundings.
Of course, he will have to work hard over time to become a regular starter. After all, he is just 20 years old. However, he is already catching the eye – including those of some of his teammates.
For instance, Firmino has now spoken enthusiastically about his new colleague. According to the Brazilian attacker, Carvalho has technical and mental traits that can be useful for Liverpool.
Speaking via O Jogo, Firmino said of Carvalho: “He’s a great player. I confess that I had watched some of his games before he came to Liverpool. So I was already impressed by the way he played.
“He’s a star, he’s a great player and now he’s also a very close friend. We are happy to have him here at Liverpool and I know he will help us a lot, with assists, goals and also his character on the pitch.”
Only one of Carvalho’s seven appearances for Liverpool in all competitions so far has been a start. However, with a contract running until 2027, it is clear that the Portuguese starlet has a bright future ahead of him.
There is every chance that he will be able to fulfil his potential at Anfield, where he has already been showing positive signs.
Roberto Firmino also bucking overall Liverpool trend
How long Firmino will be able to call him a teammate for is another matter. The forward missed portions of last season through injury. But he has been back among the action in the formative weeks of the current campaign.
Due to his own contract expiring in 2023, though, a chance remains that it could be the number nine’s last season as a Liverpool player.
With six goal contributions from seven appearances so far in 2022-23, however, Firmino is fighting well for his own future. Hence, he could yet enjoy more time as a teammate of Carvalho.
Although at different stages of their Liverpool careers, both could be useful for the club in the coming months as they aim to recapture their form from last season, which has evaded them so far.
After just two wins from their first six Premier League matches this season, Liverpool will need their whole squad to pull together to improve their fortunes. It won’t just be up to the likes of Firmino and Carvalho in their different ways.
