Roberto Firmino transfer latest: Reds striker delivers telling statement over Anfield future

Roberto Firmino appears to have made his intentions clear over where he sees his future next season ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.

The Reds take on the Spanish champions in Paris on Saturday night chasing their seventh European Cup title, with Firmino almost certain to take his place on the bench – as he has for much of the season.

The 30-year-old has scored 11 goals and added five assists in 34 appearances in all competitions. However, not many of them have been starts, with Firmino playing second fiddle to Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota in the central striking position for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The Brazilian’s contract is due to expire next year. However, speaking to TNT Sports, it sounds like he wants to continue his Liverpool adventure.

While Firmino did not confirm any contract negotiations he still made his current intentions clear.

“I’m very happy here. I’m grateful to God that I’m here playing for a great club with great players, winning titles. And my will is to stay,” Firmino told TNT Sports.

“My wish is to stay here. I want to be here. I’m happy here. So that’s all I can say, I want to stay.”

Doubts continue over Liverpool attacking stars

Firmino is probably wise not to talk up the possibility of moving on, particularly while Mo Salah and Sadio Mane’s own contract talks rumble on.

Indeed, Mane has recently been spoken of as a major target for German giants Bayern Munich.

Firmino is well aware that he will get game time under Jurgen Klopp, even if it’s not the number of starts he wants.

In all likelihood, he will run his contract down and seek a lucrative free transfer elsewhere in 2023.

Firmino moved to Merseyside in 2015 and has bagged 98 goals and 74 assists in 326 games for the Reds.
