Liverpool transfer news: Fee emerges for top full-back target, but three European rivals look to ruin plan

Liverpool will have to pay £13million if they want to sign Sacha Boey, but three European rivals are also reportedly circling for the Galatasaray star.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has made impressive signings all across the pitch throughout his tenure. Although, his full-back selections have particularly caught the eye.
Trent Alexander-Arnold emerged from the academy in 2016 and has nailed down his first-team role. On the opposite flank, Andy Robertson cost less than £10million from Hull City and has enjoyed an incredible rise.
Liverpool allowed Alexander-Arnold’s former deputy Neco Williams to leave this summer. They subsequently signed Calvin Ramsay, but he has struggled with injury issues so far.
At left-back, 2020 signing Kostas Tsimikas has provided strong competition to Robertson.
According to recent reports, though, Liverpool have scouted Galatasaray for a potential new right-back in 22-year-old Boey. The Reds watched the full-back and three of his team-mates in a 2-1 win over Konyaspor in September.
New claims from Takvim have revealed that Galatasaray would want €15million (£13million) for Boey.
What’s more, it is not just Liverpool who are after him. Ligue 1 clubs Marseille, Lyon and Rennes – who in fact let Boey move to Turkey in 2021 – want to bring him back to France.
The report adds that Galatasaray are eyeing a significant profit on Boey, who they signed for around £1million.
Boey suffered a frustrating debut season with Galatasaray due to a hamstring injury. The problem came about in September last year and he only returned in January, but with a bit-part role.
Nevertheless, he has missed only a few minutes of league action this term, featuring in all eight Super Lig matches. And that will likely have added to the good impressions Liverpool scouts got from their initial trip.
Sacha Boey unproven, but a talent
It would be a stretch to say that £13million for Boey would be a truly wise investment as it stands.
He has struggled for form and minutes at Galatasaray and is yet to really prove himself in the Turkish league.
That means an instant adaptation to the Premier League, especially at a club like Liverpool, may prove difficult.
Although, Liverpool have made it work before, with Tsimikas impressing after his £11.75m move from Greece – which is similar to the Turkish league in that it is not one of Europe’s major divisions.
And the Reds look secure at right-back anyway. Alexander-Arnold is the nailed-on starter, with Ramsay looking to grow into his reliable deputy this season and going forwards.
Furthermore, Joe Gomez regularly fills in at right-back and he only recently signed a new contract.
It would definitely have helped Boey’s cause if Galatasaray were competing in some form of European football this season. That is perhaps the next step for his development before moving across Europe.
