Sadio Mane wants to move to Bayern Munich partly to feel the true appreciation for his form that Liverpool have not given him, a report has claimed.
The Senegal international has made the Reds one of the early headline-makers of the summer transfer window amid the uncertainty over his future. Following six winners’ medals and 120 goals at Anfield, he supposedly wants a new challenge.
And Bayern are reportedly the frontrunners for the 30-year-old as they look to bring him to a new league.
German newspaper BILD now claims that Mane feels he will get true appreciation for his form at Bayern, which he has not received at Anfield.
Mane scored another 23 goals for Liverpool this season. Many of those were crucial in the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup. However, he is alongside Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino in starring for the Reds.
The Bundesliga champions think they can sign Mane for around £25million. Liverpool, though, want closer to £42.5million for the forward, who has starred everywhere in the front line for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
While the transfer fee remains up for debate, BILD has claimed to reveal details of Mane’s prospective Bayern contract.
The Africa Cup of Nations winner will reportedly earn upwards of €20million (£17million) per year.
Mane and his agent supposedly demanded around €24million per year (£20million) to stay at Anfield. However, Liverpool – who do not want to break their wage structure – flatly refused those demands.
BILD adds that Paris Saint-Germain offered more than both Liverpool and Bayern. However, Mane prefers the move to the Bundesliga.
Indeed, he feels that he could become the main man at Bayern. If he moved to the French giants, he feels he would become one of several standout stars.
As for the transfer fee, Liverpool would reportedly be willing to listen to offers starting at €35million (£30million) for Mane.
The player has not confirmed his goodbye to his team-mates, but has told them that his future is up in the air.
Liverpool could accept Mane defeat
Mane has been one of the cornerstones of the success Liverpool have enjoyed under manager Jurgen Klopp.
He scored against Bayern twice before, in the 2019 Champions League last 16 tie on the way to the final.
But Liverpool are keeping their strict wage structure in check and know breaking it for one player could lead to an influx of pay rise requests from other stars.
Liverpool are in a similarly delicate situation with Mohamed Salah. Some reports have claimed that he wants more than £400,000 per week.

Having signed Mane and Salah in successive summer transfer windows, the Reds could now lose both of them in the same way.
Salah has said he is staying next season, although his contract also expires next summer.
Mane looks as though he could be off this summer and Liverpool are resisting the urge to bite the bullet and give both players what they want.
