Liverpool transfers: Second relegated midfielder ‘could leapfrog’ Lavia on wish list as fresh link emerges

Liverpool are considering turning their attention to Leicester City star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in their search for further midfield reinforcements, a report has claimed.

The hunt for midfield signing number three at Liverpool is well underway after the additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. As things stand, the main target they are focusing on is Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

Also on their agenda is Fluminense star Andre, although neither arrival is yet a given. With that in mind – and especially considering Southampton’s high asking price for Lavia – Liverpool are keeping their options open.

Now, Anfield Watch has revealed that another midfielder they are ‘closely monitoring’ is Dewsbury-Hall.

Like Lavia, he was part of a squad that was relegated from the Premier League last season. Dewsbury-Hall played 31 times in the top flight for Leicester, who finished two places above Lavia’s Southampton but met the same fate of dropping into the Championship.

Leicester’s midfield has already undergone some change since their relegation. For example, they lost Youri Tielemans when his contract expired, but have signed Harry Winks to reinforce the department.

Now, they might have to brace themselves for interest in Dewsbury-Hall. According to the report, Liverpool do not see him as a ‘direct alternative’ to Lavia, but he ‘could leapfrog’ the Belgian on their shortlist if the negotiations are easier.

Leicester still have their academy graduate under contract until 2027 after he earned an extension last summer. In total, he has made 80 appearances for their first team, scoring five goals.

Liverpool increase interest in Dewsbury-Hall

The fact he has two seasons’ worth of Premier League experience under his belt appeals to Liverpool. In fact, their ‘interest in him has grown substantially’ after what they have seen over the past year in particular.

What may help is that Dewsbury-Hall is part of the same agency group as some current Liverpool players such as Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez. Liverpool’s positive relationship with Wasserman could play into their hands if they step up their interest in the Leicester man.

Still only 24 years old, Dewsbury-Hall has an ideal blend of experience and remaining potential. He might not be the most exciting target Liverpool have been linked with, but may be useful in various ways.

Last season, he featured mainly as a central midfield, but also earned a few appearances in more of a holding role. It is the latter that Liverpool particularly need to reinforce after selling Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Someone like Lavia might be a more natural fit for what they need, but as Liverpool’s midfield evolves even more rapidly than they may have expected, they will be considering players of various profiles.

As well as Fabinho and Henderson, Liverpool have said goodbye to the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabio Carvalho and Arthur Melo since the end of last season.
