Liverpool ‘seduced’ by striker worthy of replacing phenomenal goalscorer, as asking price rises towards £69m

Randal Kolo Muani against Yassine Meriah

Liverpool are weighing up a move for French striker Randal Kolo Muani, according to a report, but face having to pay a massive fee.

Kolo Muani has been enjoying a year that may have been beyond his wildest dreams. He earned a transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt from Nantes over the summer. Furthermore, he has also become a full member of the France national team in 2022.

In fact, Didier Deschamps turned to Kolo Muani as a replacement for Christopher Nkunku when the RB Leipzig sensation was ruled out of the World Cup through injury.

Kolo Muani went on to start the group match against Tunisia, but that has been his only involvement so far. Still, being there in place of someone who has been in as phenomenal form as Nkunku is an achievement for a player who was in the French third division as recently as the 2019-20 season.

In the not too distant future, he could arrive on a bigger stage at club level too. Although he has only been with Eintracht Frankfurt for a few months, rumours are already developing about his next move.

According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool have been “seduced” by Kolo Muani’s qualities and could make a move for him.

Their attack has been evolving in 2022 with the signings of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. But they constantly have an eye on other options who could strengthen them.

Kolo Muani, 24, has now cropped up on their radar. It is not the first time they have been linked with him.

Now, though, Foot Mercato predicts Liverpool could be the next stop of Kolo Muani’s “meteoric” rise.

The Premier League side will have to spend big in order to sign him, though. While Eintracht Frankfurt took him on a free transfer, they have now set a minimum asking price of €60million (£51.8million).

The report even predicts his status as a World Cup player could increase his value further, towards the €80million (£69million) mark.

Huge bid by Liverpool for Randal Kolo Muani might be unnecessary

It would be a huge commitment by Liverpool, especially when they have broken their transfer record already this year to sign a striker in the shape of Nunez.

They are not the only club Eintracht Frankfurt could sell Kolo Muani to. According to the report, Tottenham Hotspur have revived their own interest, which began to form last summer.

Of course, competition for places in the Tottenham attack is high as well. But until they can extend Harry Kane’s contract beyond 2024, perhaps it makes sense for them to be exploring their options.

Besides, Son Heung-min has turned 30 and has shown signs of declining in form. Thus, it may be natural for them to think about evolving their options up front, as already seen with the addition of Richarlison from Everton a few months ago.

Kolo Muani could also move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if they decide to step up their interest.

For now, he remains under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2027. Since joining them in the summer, he has scored eight goals and added 11 assists from 23 appearances in all competitions.

The Europa League champions could gain a huge profit by cashing in on Kolo Muani next year. With some unnamed Italian clubs in contention to sign him too, it will be all to play for in the battle for his transfer.
