Liverpool transfer news: Serge Gnabry ‘not impressed’ as Bayern outline ‘explosive’ plan to punish star

Bayern Munich are reportedly planning to cut Serge Gnabry out of the team if he decides to stall over a new contract, amid Liverpool transfer links with the winger.

The German’s current deal with the Bundesliga giants expires next year, but he has yet to make a decision on his future. Following 64 goals in 171 appearances, the forward has had to go the long way round to prove himself.

Indeed, Gnabry faced rejection at Arsenal and then spells elsewhere in Germany. But after starring in four Bundesliga title triumphs and Bayern’s 2020 Champions League win, he is coming to a crossroads.

Turning 27 in July, he is entering the final year of his deal and his next contract will see him through his prime years. As such, Kicker reports that there is growing tension over his future in Bavaria.

So much so, that Bayern are considering exiling Gnabry from the team if he does nothing to change his situation.

His first option is to stay and sign the new contract that he has on the table from Bayern. Gnabry feels happy with the terms and likes living in Munich. However, the timing and style of the contract approach from his club has frustrated him.

The second route Bayern would be open to Gnabry taking this summer is to leave.

If he decides to go, Bayern can make a significant profit on the reported €8million (£6.9million) it cost them to sign him from Werder Bremen in 2017.

And recent reports have claimed that Liverpool, after replacing new Bayern man Sadio Mane with Darwin Nunez, are keen on Gnabry.

What’s more, Reds chiefs feel confident that Bayern will lower their initial transfer demands after negotiations for Mane went smoothly.

Klopp is aware of the doubt surrounding Mohamed Salah, who similarly has one year left on his Anfield deal. Gnabry, who also plays on the right wing, could be the ideal replacement.

As for the third option over Gnabry’s future, the winger could do nothing and enter the final year of his deal with the potential of leaving as a free agent.

In response, Kicker claims Bayern would punish him by sending him to the stands and not giving him game time.

Kicker journalist Georg Holzner says Gnabry is ‘not impressed’. But the report adds that the winger feels ‘relaxed’ over the threat because he knows his importance to the team.

And the report notes that the ‘explosive’ plan to exile a senior Germany international, who directly contributed to 27 goals last term ahead of the World Cup, would likely end up being a major blunder.

Winger perfect for Liverpool

Gnabry is currently on holiday after playing in three of Germany’s four Nations League matches, grabbing two assists.

He will make his decision when he returns and if he decides to leave, he would be an excellent signing for Liverpool.

The 34-cap international is only just entering his prime having starred in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

His tough times at Arsenal and then forcing his way into the Bayern squad will have made him a stronger player too.

Salah looks increasingly likely to leave as a free agent next summer. The Egyptian has said he is staying next season, but club, player and agent seemingly cannot agree on fresh terms.

Gnabry would slot in perfectly on the right wing. But his versatility is a trait Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will likely admire. Gnabry also played on the left wing and down the middle last season.
