Liverpool transfer news: Sky Sports man drops massive claim as talk of monumental Klopp deal for Prem star gathers pace

Liverpool are very much in the mix to make a another new addition in the January transfer window with Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth strongly indicating a swoop for a Premier League midfielder may well be on the cards.
The Merseysiders have already pounced this month to sign Cody Gakpo in a deal that could top £45m with add-ons. The Netherlands forward boosts a Liverpool attack to offer Jurgen Klopp an unbelievable plethora of options up front.
However, the real quest for the Liverpool recruitment team this year lies in strengthening their midfield. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are just six months away from becoming free agents and are likely to leave Anfield. Furthermore, James Milner – 37 earlier this month – may be in the final months of his decorated stay on Merseyside.
As such, Klopp is on the lookout for at least two big-name midfield additions in 2023.
Their very top target is Borussia Dortmund teenager Jude Bellingham. And while he will cost a package likely to be well in excess of £100m, a sneaky Liverpool plot involving offering his father Mark a job, is reportedly underway.
Any deal for Bellingham, however, is likely to go through in the summer. And with Jordan Henderson and Thiago succumbing to injuries this season, Klopp, ideally, would like a new body in this month.
To that end, Saturday’s Transfer Gossip claims the Reds are working on a potential box-office signing this month.
Potential targets have been strongly speculated upon in the media with Declan Rice, Goncalo Guedes and Moises Caicedo all players Klopp reportedly admirers.
Now, to add further credability to those claims. Sheth suggests a move for one of those targets could be taking shape.
Liverpool keen on deal for Moises Caicedo
Speaking to Givemesport, Sheth is indicating that the Reds may well try and pounce for Brighton star Caicedo this month.
The Ecuadorian star has emerged as a player of genuine quality over the past 12 months, appearing for his country at the World Cup.
And while rated in the £60m – £70m bracket, he recently made clear his admiration for Liverpool.
Now Sheth has added fuel to the fire over a potential move, though he admits any approach will be strongly opposed by Brighton.
“It looks like the number one choice is Jude Bellingham,” he said. “But there has been an interest in Moises Caicedo as well. That’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
“I’m not sure if it would be in this transfer window or whether it will be in the summer, though. That’s because Brighton don’t want to sell mid-season; Brighton have got their own ambitions.
“Remember, they probably feel that they can get into the European places. That would be an incredible achievement for them this season, and Caicedo has actually spoken about that. Yes, we’re playing very, very well. And yes, we’ve got a chance of qualifying for Europe.”
There’s little doubting Caicedo would welcome the move. The player recently liked a post on social media saying ‘Liverpool awaits you champion’.
But whether Liverpool could fund moves for both Caicedo and Bellingham in 2023 remains to be seen.
In addition, Brighton would be loathe to sell this month, particularly amid claims that Leandro Trossard is also pushing for an exit.
