Sofyan Amrabat: Star’s brother reveals talks with London giants as Liverpool are sent transfer warning

The race to sign Sofyan Amrabat is expected to heat up in the coming weeks with his brother lifting the lid on the growing transfer interest in the Fiorentina star.

The Morocco star has emerged as one of the stars of the 2022 World Cup with some excellent displays for the semi-finalists. And while the Atlas Lions’ run came to an end at the hands of France, their elimination of Spain and Portugal will go down in history.

And Morocco are not done yet either with the north African side looking to beat Croatia on Saturday to finish third.

The defensive midfield protection that Amrabat has offered his nation has been key. Prior to the France game, they had conceded just one goal throughout the tournament, that an own goal against Canada.

And his form has seen a number of suitors alerted to the 26-year-old star.

The strongest interest has undoubtedly come from Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s side are very much in the market for new midfielders in 2023 as they prepare for a serious reshuffle in their engine room.

Costly midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita both look likely to leave on free transfers. And there are claims that time may finally be catching up with James Milner. The veteran midfielder turns 37 in a two weeks and theories are growing that this may be his last season at Anfield.

However, one observer reckons a move to Anfield for Amrabat could come at the expense of another underperforming star.

As such, the interest in Amrabat comes as no surprise. He is contracted to 2024, meaning he has just 18 months left on his deal. And with the player reportedly earning a mere £25,000 a week, a move to the Premier League will see his salary dramatically escalate.

Sofyan Amrabat is a player in high demand

By all accounts, his agent has aspirations of sealing a lucrative move to England for the Fiorentina star.

However, Liverpool interest in Amrabat is unlikely to be straight forward. His side Fiorentina have already indicated their unwillingness to sell in January, regardless of his contract status.

Furthermore, Liverpool are far from alone in their pursuit for Amrabat, with Tottenham also ready to rekindle efforts to sign him.

Now the player’s brother, Nordin – formerly of Watford – has confirmed those talks with Spurs. And confirming that interest is growing, his sibling admits his delight at the attention that Amrabat junior is now receiving.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, as relayed by Voetbal Primeur, Nordin Amrabat opened up on his brother’s future.

“I am really incredibly proud of Sofyan,” he said.

“When you play so well on such a stage – in three matches against countries like Croatia, Belgium and Canada – you have a lot going for you.

“I think the top clubs in Europe who have been sleeping have now woken up.

“In January, Sofyan himself was already in talks with Tottenham Hotspur. However, there was no agreement on the transfer fee with Fiorentina.

“I think the interested parties will now line up.”

Fiorentina signed Amrabat from Hellas Verona in 2020 following a successful loan with the Italian side.

Costing around £7m, his World Cup displays have seen him touted in the £48m bracket.

And were the Reds to make that sort of offer, it is unlikely La Viola would be able to resist.
