Tottenham hit by bombshell report as Liverpool plan transfer for key star, with Spanish giants also involved

Son Heung-min and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Tottenham are at risk of losing one of their most integral players to Liverpool amid claims Jurgen Klopp’s side are planning to move for him.

Tottenham sit third in the Premier League after 12 games. They are five points off leaders Arsenal after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Tottenham were in European action on Wednesday as they came up against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League group stage.

They went behind in the 22nd minute when former Spurs academy graduate Marcus Edwards beat Hugo Lloris with a left-footed strike.

Spurs were lucky not to concede more when pushing for an equaliser. That goal eventually came when Rodrigo Bentancur headed home from a corner in the 80th minute.

Harry Kane thought he had bagged a memorable winner in stoppage time, only for his goal to be ruled out by VAR.

Ultimately Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by the Portuguese side. They sit top of Group D but must pick up a result against Marseille in the final game to ensure they reach the knockout stage.

Spurs’ key players were unable to make the difference against Sporting. And Antonio Conte could be given a huge setback if talismanic forward Son Heung-min leaves north London.

Report claims unthinkable Spurs exit is a possibility

The South Korean is under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2025, which puts Spurs in a relatively strong position. Nevertheless, Liverpool and some of Europe’s other biggest teams are planning to swoop in for Son.

That is according to CaughtOffside, who cite German outlet Sport1. Son is apparently weighing up where to go in the next step of his career and may just make a big-money transfer as a result.

Liverpool are ‘on alert’ over the situation. Klopp is likely to be a big fan of Son following his exploits at Spurs. He has scored 136 goals while in England and shared the Prem’s Golden Boot award with Mo Salah last season.

Klopp also came up against Son while in Germany, as the player represented both Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen before joining Spurs.

The 30-year-old would be a fantastic addition for Liverpool. He is a world-class star who can change games in an instant.

Him playing up front alongside the likes of Salah and Roberto Firmino would be an incredible sight.

Liverpool could tempt Son to Anfield by offering him the chance to win trophies. Despite him and Harry Kane shining at Spurs, they haven’t been able to end the club’s trophy drought.

Since Spurs triumphed in the League Cup in 2008, Liverpool have won plenty of silverware, mainly under Klopp. This includes the Premier League title, Champions League, FA Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

However, there are a couple of reasons why Son may not end up at Liverpool, should he choose to leave Spurs. The first is that some big clubs are rivalling the Reds for his signature.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on his situation. Like Liverpool, they could submit a bid if he makes his desire to leave Spurs known.

The second potential stumbling block for Klopp and Liverpool is Spurs’ unwillingness to sell. Their chairman, Daniel Levy, is a tricky customer and will under no circumstances want Son playing for another English club.

If he does have to sell the attacker, then it will be to a European outfit such as Real or PSG. And it is very unlikely Levy would sanction Son’s exit at all.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa could break two records as part of their aim to sign a Liverpool transfer target.
