Sources: Liverpool to avenge Bellingham miss by beating Real Madrid to superb €40m Spanish star Klopp adores

Gabri Veiga of Celta Vigo is wanted by Liverpool

Liverpool are leading the chase for Celta Vigo starlet Gabri Veiga as Jurgen Klopp looks to reshape his side’s midfield, TEAMtalk understands.

Veiga has emerged as one of the best young talents in Europe this season after bursting onto the scene at Celta Vigo. The 20-year-old centre midfielder has an impressive nine goals and four assists from 32 appearances in LaLiga this season.

As a result, the likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been credited with an interest in the star. Indeed, Ben Jacobs told us earlier this year why the presence of Mikel Arteta gives Arsenal an advantage.

However, we understand it is Liverpool who are the ones pushing to sign the Spain Under-21 international.

Liverpool are in need of midfield reinforcements with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all set to leave Anfield this summer when their contract expires.

Real Madrid were regarded as favourites for Veiga this summer, and reports on Monday suggest they are still looking to win the race.

However, with Jude Bellingham their priority, Cadena Cope reports that Real’s plan is to sign Veiga and loan him out for the 2023/24 season.

They are also only willing to offer Celta around €30m for Veiga, a price that falls below his exit clause.

As a result, TEAMtalk understands that Liverpool have cruised into pole position for his signing.

And the Reds are seemingly willing to meet the €40m (£34.8m) clause in his contract.

That makes Veiga a cheaper alternative for Liverpool to a number of their other targets they have been pursuing. And Klopp sees Veiga as a potential star in the making who he feels he could develop under his tutelage.

Klopp plans to make at least three midfield signings this summer to freshen up his engine room.

And Monday’s Transfer Gossip claims two of these are already closing in with a £120m double deal on the cards. That will seemingly see Mason Mount and Alexis Mac Allister both moving to Anfield shortly after the season concludes.

But they could also be joined on Merseyside by Veiga, who is regarded as one of LaLiga’s best young stars.
