Liverpool have been revamping their midfield in 2023 and are still keeping an eye on a lot of potential targets.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all left on free transfers at the end of last season while Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have both moved to Saudi Arabia.

Jurgen Klopp has already made three midfield additions this summer but they are still on the lookout for more before the end of the 2023 transfer window.

We’ve taken a look at every midfielder that Liverpool have been linked with since the 2022 summer transfer window closed.

Cheick Doucoure 

Doucoure enjoyed an excellent debut season at Crystal Palace in 2022/23 and The Atheltic revealed that Liverpool are actively exploring the possibility of signing him.

Palace have reportedly put a £70million price tag on the 23-year-old as they hope to deter any interested parties.

Kalvin Phillips

Phillips has struggled for game time at Manchester City and The Echo claim he is one of several defensive midfielders being considered by Liverpool this summer.

Douglas Luiz

Luiz has gone from strength to strength in an Aston Villa shirt, and he was the subject of interest from Arsenal last summer.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Brazil international is a player that has now been discussed internally by Liverpool.

Boubacar Kamara

Despite struggling with injury problems in his debut season at Aston Villa, Kamara did enough to impress Liverpool and is reportedly on their list of targets.

Jacob Ramsey

Goal claims the Aston Villa midfielder – compared by some to Jude Bellingham – has plenty of admirers at Anfield. But it would take something special to prise the England Under-21s star away from Villa Park.

Matheus Nunes

The Reds have a long-standing interest in Nunes and considered a move for him in January but they have reportedly abandoned their pursuit of the Wolves midfielder, who now looks set to join Manchester City.

Joao Palhinha

Palhinha enjoyed an impressive debut season at Fulham and Football Insider claim that Liverpool sent scouts to watch the midfielder on multiple occasions.

But Fulham have reportedly slapped an £80million price tag on the Portugal international.

Conor Gallagher

According to the Independent, Jurgen Klopp identified Gallagher as a target as he is a big admirer of the Chelsea midfielder’s energy and dynamism.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Bentancur enjoyed an impressive first year at Tottenham and while a serious knee injury ended his season, reports in Spain claim he was coming under Jurten Klopp’s watchful gaze.

Bruno Guimaraes

As per GOAL, Liverpool have opened talks over Guimaraes but Newcastle are preparing a bumper contract offer to convince him to remain at St James’ Park.

Moises Caicedo

While Brighton accepted Liverpool’s £111million bid for Caciedo, he rejected their advances and joined Chelsea instead.

Romeo Lavia

The Reds made three unsuccessful bids for the teenager, who ultimately left Southampton and joined Caicedo at Stamford Bridge.

Declan Rice

While Sky Sports revealed that Liverpool expressed an interest in signing Rice, Arsenal were the only team that matched West Ham’s asking price.

Mason Mount

Mount was reportedly high on Liverpool’s list of midfield targets, but he decided to join Manchester United instead.

Ruben Neves

Liverpool have reportedly been long-term admirers of Neves, but he’s now joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in a £47million deal.

N’Golo Kante

Kante left Chelsea on a free transfer at the end of last season and then followed Neves to Saudi Arabia, signing a three-year deal with Al-Ittihad.

Youri Tielemans

Liverpool considered a move for Tielemans but ultimately decided not to pursue the midfielder, who has joined Aston Villa on a free transfer.

James Maddison

Maddison was linked with both Liverpool and Newcastle United before completing a £40million move to Tottenham.

Ethan Nwaneri

Nwaneri, who made his senior debut for Arsenal last season, attracted interest from several top teams but ultimately signed a new long-term contract from the Gunners.

Championship

Wilfred Ndidi

According to the Indepdenent, Ndidi may be considered by Liverpool as Leicester City are willing to do business in the last few days of the window.

The defensive midfielder, who has one year left on hs contract, is also attracting interest from Nottingham Forest and Bayern Munich.

George Hall

Hall enjoyed a breakthrough season at Birmingham City and a report from the Daily Mail revealed that Liverpool have been scouting the 19-year-old.

Hayden Hackney

Hackney earned rave reviews for his performances for Middlesbrough in 2022/23 and 90min claim that Liverpool have already checked on the 21-year-old.

Alex Scott

While Scott was reportedly watched by some senior members of Liverpool’s recruitment team, they didn’t make a bid for him and he’s now at Bournemouth.

Sander Berge

French source Jeunes Footeux reported that Liverpool and Chelsea both hold an interest in the midfielder, but he joined Burnley after leaving Sheffield United.

Tchouameni rejected Liverpool in order to sign for Real Madrid last summer, but reports in Spain claim they have made another offer to the midfielder in an attempt to finally lure him to Merseyside.

Federico Valverde

Liverpool reportedly made an enquiry for Valverde in the summer of 2022 and El Nacional believe they will reignite their interest in the Real Madrid midfielder.

Frenkie de Jong

De Jong has been heavily linked with Manchester United in recent months but ESPN claim that Liverpool have also made contact with the midfielder’s representatives.

Mikel Merino

Merino was one of Real Sociedad’s standout performers last season and journalist Rudy Galetti claims that he is now on Klopp’s list of midfield targets.

Marcos Llorente

Llorente is valued at around €60million and a report from Spain states that Liverpool are competing with Manchester United for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.

Guido Rodriquez

A Spanish outlet also reported that Liverpool and Everton have both been impressed by Real Betis’ Rodriquez, who would be available for around €30million.

Veiga enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season at Celta Vigo and Liverpool tracked his progress, but he’s now moved to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.

Yunus Musah

While 90min claimed that Liverpool have made contact with Musah’s representatives, he has since joined Serie A side AC Milan.

Rodrigo De Paul

After winning the World Cup with Argentina, Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has been linked with Liverpool – who have held an interest in him before – by sources in the Spanish media.

Sofyan Amrabat

Amrabat shot to prominence following his performances at the World Cup and the Atheltic claim that Liverpool see the Fiorentina star as a potential replacement for Fabinho.

Nicolo Barella

Barella helped Inter Milan reach the Champions League final in 2022/23 and Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Liverpool have sent scouts to watch him in action.

Piotr Zielinski

Zielinski reportedly came close to joining Liverpool in 2016 and Polish outlet Meczyki claim that the Napoli star is on Klopp’s list of targets once again.

Eljif Elmas

According to journalist Ahmet Ercanlar, Jurgen Klopp spoke to Elmas over the phone and told the Napoli midfielder that he wants him at Liverpool.

Stanislav Lobotka

Another Napoli midfielder, Lobotka has also attracted interest from Liverpool, according to a report from Calciomercatoweb.

Adrien Rabiot

Liverpool were reportedly in regular contact with the player’s representatives, but he has since signed a one-year contract extension at Juventus.

Weston McKennie

McKennie was briefly linked with Liverpool before his disastrous loan spell at Leeds United in the second half of 2022/23.

Milinkovic-Savic was regularly linked with a move to the Premier League but has now joined Al Hilal in a £34million deal.

Marcelo Brozovic

Reports in Italy claim that Liverpool unsuccessfully tried to offer Naby Keita to Inter Milan in a swap deal for Brozovic, who has since joined Al Nassr.

It’s safe to assume that this one won’t be happening as Bennacer has now signed a new long-term contract with AC Milan.

Gravenbech only joined Bayern Munich last year but could move on this summer in search of regular first-team football.

According to David Ornstein, Liverpool have entered negotiations with Bayern and are expected to submit a formal offer for the 21-year-old.

Jude Bellingham

It’s no secret that Bellingham was Liverpool’s top transfer target in 2023 and this has been confirmed by the likes of Fabrizio Romano, Bild and many more.

But the Reds had to pull out of the race for his signature due to the finances involved and Real Madrid signed him in a £114million deal.

Leon Goretzka

After falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel, Goretzka could leave Bayern Munich this summer and FootballTransfers claim that he’s on Liverpool’s radar.

Marca claim that Liverpool are interested in Kimmich, and Bayern Munich have reportedly decided that the midfielder may now be sold if the price is right.

Kouadio Kone

Fabrizio Romano announced that Liverpool are following Borussia Monchengladbach’s Kone, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

A report from 90min revealed that Liverpool are among a number of clubs interested in the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, who has since signed a new long-term contract.

Jesper Lindstrom

Lindstrom has admitted that he’s a Liverpool fan and his impressive displays for Eintracht Frankfurt have caught Klopp’s attention.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has reported that Liverpool and Arsenal have both opened dialogue over a move for the Denmark international, but he now looks set to join Napoli.

According to 90min, Liverpool are among several Premier League clubs to have scouted Stach, whose contract at Mainz expires in 2024.

Sky Deutschland have since reported that the defensive midfielder is open to leaving Mainz as he targets a place in the Germany squad for Euro 2024.

Liverpool were heavily linked with the RB Leipzig midfielder but he has since confirmed that he’s agreed to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

Marco Verratti

While Verratti has been heavily linked with Atletico Madrid, L’Equipe claim that Liverpool are keeping a close watch on the situation and are readying a rival approach.

Youssouf Fofana

The Daily Mail report that Liverpool were the first Premier League club to set their sights on Monaco’s Fofana, and he has a £21.9million price tag.

Khephren Thuram

Son of France legend Lilian Thuram, Khephren has been impressing at Nice and is reportedly seen by Klopp as the ‘perfect’ solution to his midfield woes.

But Fabrizio Romano claims they are no longer pursuing him as the package was considered too expensive for Liverpool, both in terms of a transfer fee and his salary.

Renato Sanches

Despite being monitored by Liverpool, Sanches has now joined Roma on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain.

Carlos Baleba

While 90min claimed that Liverpool were keeping a close watch on Baleba, he has now joined Brighton in a £23million deal.

Seko Fofana

Liverpool reportedly followed Fofana’s progress at Lens, but he’s now signed for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

Any other leagues

Andre

According to Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy, Liverpool have officially made contact with Fluminense over the possibility of signing Andre.

But the Brazilian side are not willing to let the 22-year-old midfielder leave during the middle of their season.

Luka Sucic

Sucic has already been dubbed the new Luka Modric and his impressive performances for Red Bull Salzburg have reportedly caught Liverpool’s attention.

FootballTransfers claim that the 20-year-old is on the Reds’ preliminary list of targets and he reportedly has a release clause in his Salzburg deal worth around £17.6million.

Enzo Fernandez

Liverpool were reportedly monitoring the Argentina international, but he joined Chelsea in a deal worth £106.8million in January.

Florentino Luis

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are interested in Fernandez’s former midfield partner at Benfica and have sent scouts to watch Luis in action.

Ibrahim Sangare

Sangare has been the subject of interest from Nottingham Forest and West Ham but ESPN claim that the PSV midfielder is also on Liverpool’s radar.

Alberto Moleiro

According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have compiled good reports about the Las Palmas midfielder – who has been dubbed as the next Pedri – and are prepared to meet his €25million release clause.

Mohammed Kudus

Having starred for Ajax, Kudus attracted interest from several teams in England and joined West Ham United in a £38million deal.

Alan Varela

While Liverpool reportedly sent scouts to watch Varela play for Boca Juniors in 2022/23, he’s since joined Porto in an €11million deal.

Joao Gomes

Liverpool were reportedly tracking Gomes’ progress at Flamengo but didn’t make any bids, and he joined Wolves in a £15million deal in January 2023.

Miguel Ugarte

Ugarte was linked with both Liverpool and Chelsea during his time at Sporting but has now joined Paris Saint-Germain in a £51.1million deal.

Orkun Kokcu

A report from Football Transfers claimed that the Reds were contemplating a move for Kokcu, who has now left Feyenoord for Benfica.
