Liverpool transfer latest: Klopp factor key in deal for explosive winger desperate to make Anfield switch

Jurgen Klopp will have a ‘big say’ in transfers at Liverpool, with PSV attacker Cody Gakpo tipped to be a top addition to the first-team squad, according to one observer.

The Merseyside outfit are said to be in pole position to land the Manchester United target, who appears destined to leave the Dutch side at the end of the season.

Gakpo actually has a contract that runs until 2026, but has previously stated that it would be an honour to play for Liverpool.

That appears to have opened the door for the Reds to try and strike a deal for the Netherlands international.

The 23-year-old is likely to cost in the region of £35million, which is relatively cheap for a player of Gakpo’s quality.

And pundit Alan Hutton believes Klopp will have a major say on the players he believes can improve his team.

The former Tottenham and Scotland defender told Football Insider, when speaking about Liverpool’s transfer business: “In terms of Klopp, I think he will have a big say to be quite honest.

“Their recruitment has been brilliant there is no getting away from that. They have made really good additions to the squad. I think that will be no different moving forward.”

Gakpo perfect for Premier League

Hutton has seen first-hand the sort of damage that Gakpo can inflict on opponents. And he thinks the tall winger will be a success in England.

He added: “I have seen Gakpo play quite a lot, obviously against Rangers. His goal involvements, assists, physically he is a good size. He is built for the Premier League. So it does not surprise me that they are looking at someone like him.

“But I am pretty sure Klopp has got a really good relationship with the recruitment team. And he will have a big say in whoever comes in.”

If he does arrive at Anfield, Gakpo will compete with Mo Salah and Luis Diaz in the wide roles.

Klopp is also certain to freshen up a Liverpool midfield that has struggled in the Premier League this season.

Jude Bellingham, Youri Tielemans and Benfica star Enzo Fernandez are all options for the Reds boss.

Indeed, a recent report suggested Liverpool are ready to throw in a younger player who is on Borussia Dortmund’s radar in order to seal a deal for the England international.

Liverpool will be back in action on December 20 when they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
