Liverpool submit ‘official bid’ as spectacular £165m double signing accelerates
Two trusted sources have provided the latest after Liverpool launched an opening offer for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, with a new bid also coming for Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak.
Liverpool have identified Guehi as their top defensive target before Monday’s transfer deadline. The Reds want Guehi to replace Jarell Quansah, who joined Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer, while also providing Ibrahima Konate with competition for his starting spot.
Plus, capturing Guehi would bolster Liverpool’s centre-back ranks in case Konate runs down his contract and joins Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer, just like Trent Alexander-Arnold did earlier this year.
Liverpool have already signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma but Guehi is viewed as an elite centre-half who can improve Arne Slot’s team immediately.
The England international has refused Palace’s offers to extend his contract. His current terms expire in June 2026 and this puts him in a strong position to secure a major move to Anfield.
David Ornstein has revealed that Liverpool have submitted an ‘official bid’ for Guehi worth £35million. Palace have ‘yet to respond’ as they are continuing to work on possible replacements.
Fabrizio Romano followed Ornstein’s update by stating that Guehi’s move to Liverpool ‘remains underway’.
He adds that the offer also includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause to sweeten the deal for Palace. Romano claims that £35m would be enough for a ‘club-to-club agreement’ to be reached, despite previous suggestions Palace might hold out for £45m.
The decision is now down to Palace. They can either accept Liverpool’s proposal or keep Guehi for an extra season before letting him leave on a free transfer in summer 2026.
Financially, it would make sense for Palace to sell. But keeping the 25-year-old would help Oliver Glasner’s side massively as they look to move up the Premier League table and also go far in the Europa Conference League.
Liverpool could sign both Guehi and Isak before the transfer window shuts. According to various sources including The Telegraph and the Mirror, Liverpool are ready to return with a new £130m bid for Isak.
The reigning Premier League champions have already had an offer for Isak worth £110m plus add-ons rejected by Newcastle.

Woltemade to Newcastle gives Liverpool Isak boost
Liverpool have been given encouragement they can snare Isak after Newcastle made Nick Woltemade their new striker in a £69m deal.
There have been suggestions that Isak to Liverpool is already agreed, though such speculation has since been shut down.
Newcastle ideally want £150m for their Swedish star. However, Liverpool are growing in confidence that Newcastle will settle for £130m as the deadline edges closer.
Returning to Guehi, TEAMtalk revealed on July 3 that the player has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, which has since been confirmed by Romano.
A £165m double deal for Guehi and Isak would cap off an astonishing summer for Liverpool. They have already smashed their transfer record on Florian Wirtz and could break it again to sign Isak.
Other top players such as Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have joined Liverpool, too.
