Liverpool transfer plans explode into life with ‘agreement reached’ for coveted international star and £17m discount secured
Liverpool have reached an agreement with another Premier League club over their first summer signing and have managed to get him at a £17million discount, according to a bombshell report.
Liverpool could improve several positions in the summer transfer window, but their main focus will be on central midfield and centre-back. The Reds have needed reinforcements in midfield for a couple of seasons but have failed to provide Jurgen Klopp with the necessary signings.
It is understood the Reds have been saving up to try and snare Jude Bellingham, with the Borussia Dortmund star Klopp’s ideal signing to bolster his midfield.
But last month, Liverpool decided Bellingham would be too expensive to take to Anfield, leaving the club’s supporters disappointed. Real Madrid are now in pole position to sign him, although Manchester City are mobilising and could cause the La Liga giants problems.
After opting against Bellingham, Liverpool chiefs have since turned their attention to Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister.
On Friday, Paul Joyce of The Times revealed Mac Allister is ‘poised to leave’ Brighton after a fantastic campaign with both the Seagulls and Argentina.

Fabrizio Romano then added to the rumours by explaining how Mac Allister is ‘keen’ on a Liverpool switch. Klopp has been asked about his team’s interest in the 24-year-old, though he is refusing to give anything away.
Italian source Tuttomercatoweb have now provided a massive update on the Mac Allister to Liverpool talk. They claim Klopp’s transfer plans have burst into life as Liverpool have ‘reached a verbal agreement’ with Brighton over Mac Allister’s move.
Liverpool talk Brighton down from £70m asking price
Reports have previously stated the World Cup winner will only leave Brighton if a £70m bid comes in. But Tuttomercatoweb state Liverpool have actually managed to strike an agreement by offering €60m (£53m). They have somehow talked Brighton down by £17m.
While it is brilliant news for Liverpool that they have agreed a deal with Brighton, the signing of Mac Allister is not done yet.
The report claims Mac Allister has yet to actually make a decision on which club he wants to play for next. He ‘intends to wait until the end of the season before deciding’.
The main reason for this is that the former Boca Juniors man wants to ensure he is playing Champions League football when departing the Amex.
As such, Liverpool must ensure they get into the top four to guarantee Mac Allister becomes their first summer arrival.
Following an up-and-down season, Liverpool are outsiders to qualify for next season’s Champions League. However, six wins on the bounce has put them right on Manchester United’s tail.
If Erik ten Hag’s side slip up, then Liverpool must pounce and take their opportunity, as this would ensure they can capture Mac Allister.
