Liverpool ‘very likely’ to make offer for defender who could succeed one of Klopp’s best buys

The agent of Liverpool target Patrick Dorgu is expecting the Reds to make an offer to Lecce for the left-back, it has been revealed.
Dorgu has become of interest to Liverpool in recent months despite not yet making his senior debut for Lecce. The 18-year-old, who is a youth international for Denmark, has caught the attention of various clubs thanks to his potential, but Liverpool are one of the likeliest bidders.
His agent, Kingsley Ogbodo, has already spoken openly about the chances of Liverpool swooping. Now, Ogbodo has reiterated that he is anticipating a concrete move by Jurgen Klopp’s transfer team.
The representative told Sport Italia: “No, they haven’t made any offers, but it is very likely that Liverpool will make one.
“I don’t know if it will happen, but they are interested and they like the player.”
Liverpool might face competition from Barcelona and Manchester City for the full-back. However, Ogbodo has doubled down on his advice that this summer might be too soon for him to join a club of that calibre.
He added: “I know that Liverpool are interested, I received this information and I know that they have observed him. They know who he is and are following him.
“Barcelona and City are too, but as I said in previous interviews, there’s no way he’s leaving right now.”
Dorgu could make Italian transfer instead
In addition, some of Lecce’s domestic rivals are expressing an interest in the Liverpool target.
Ogbodo said:Â “There are many, both in Serie A and Serie B, that are following him. But since Liverpool have shown so much interest, it won’t take long before other big clubs do the same.”
Since he is still developing, Dorgu wouldn’t be an immediate replacement for Andy Robertson at left-back. However, as he develops and the current starter ages, he may have been outlined as someone to succeed him.
Robertson has to go down as one of the best signings of the Klopp era at Anfield. Picking him up from a relegated Hull City side for less than £10m was an inspired bit of business.
Dorgu wouldn’t cost much either given his relative lack of experience, but whoever becomes the next starting left-back for Liverpool after Robertson will have some way to go to live up to his standards.
Liverpool still have Robertson under contract for another three seasons, by the end of which he will be 32 years old.
