Warning sign for Liverpool as Juventus eye ‘dream’ capture to replace Paulo Dybala
Liverpool could be the subject of a Juventus raid this summer as reports claim the Italian giants want to replace Paulo Dybala with a ‘dream’ signing from Anfield.
Dybala, 28, is on the verge of leaving Turin after a breakdown in contract negotiations. According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus agreed a new deal with the forward back in October.
Argentina international Dybala would have picked up an £8.3million net salary as part of the extension, lasting until 2026.
But in a surprising turn of events, Juve have reduced their offer. The player is not happy with the new terms and will now push for an exit as a free agent.
The contract debacle gives Tottenham the chance to snatch a long-term target for no transfer fee.
However, interest also stems from Arsenal, AC Milan and Atletico. This gives Dybala plenty of high-profile options when it comes to his next club.
Juve manager Max Allegri and sporting director Federico Cherubini are now having to plan for life without the attacker. And it looks like they are targeting one of Liverpool’s most important stars next.
Liverpool man is Allegri’s ‘dream’ signing
According to Football Italia, who cite Calciomercato, Allegri’s ‘dream’ replacement is none other than Mo Salah.
The right winger has been deadly in front of goal this season. His record stands at 28 goals and 10 assists in 36 matches so far. He is way ahead in the Premier League scoring charts and is also in the mix for the Champions League top scorer award.
Salah is clearly integral to Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, but Juve seemingly want to disturb their rhythm.
The main problem for the Old Lady is Salah’s contract demands. Juve are in the process of lowering their wage bill, so meeting Salah’s £400,000-a-week salary is likely to be a problem.
Transfer fee is another issue
And the report doesn’t even get to Salah’s potential transfer fee. The Egyptian’s exceptional form over the past few seasons has seen his value rise to £90million on transfermarkt.
But Liverpool would want way more than this to part with one of their best ever forwards in the summer.
The report does name an alternative for Juve when it comes to replacing Dybala. They could swerve a new attacker altogether and instead sign midfielder Paul Pogba from Manchester United. Such a move would likely see Pogba take up a number 10 role on a regular basis.
Like Dybala, Pogba’s contract runs out on June 30 and there is yet to be a major breakthrough over a renewal at Old Trafford.
