New Manchester City signing Erling Haaland can leave the club in two years if someone puts up €200m to sign the striker, claims a report.
Haaland has yet to kick a ball for Man City having only just arrived for £51m last month. City agreed to pay the 21-year-old’s release clause at Borussia Dortmund after his 83 goals in 87 games.
The prolific Norway striker has progressed up the football ladder in recent years. And he has previously taken advantage of buyout clauses in his previous contracts.
Dortmund took advantage of the €20m clause in his Red Bull Salzburg deal in 2019. While City met his €70m buyout at German club Dortmund.
The clauses were inserted in his previous deals by the late Mino Raiola. And such has been the benefit of those deals, Haaland’s representatives insisted,in “arduous negotiations” with Tixi Bergstein and Ferran Soriano, that those clauses would be required once again.
Now Marca claims Haaland, who signed a five-year deal, has a fresh set of clauses in his City contract.
The Spanish outlet report that Haaland’s representatives made sure the striker would be allowed him to leave for a €200m transfer fee in 2024. They also state that the buyout will drop slightly to €175m in 2025, as long as the player meets a series of sporting objectives.
Release clauses are generally not allowed under Premier League rules. However the link with sporting objectives is understood to have made the contract stipulations viable.
Real Madrid would not have agreed to Haaland conditions
Those objectives are understood to be linked with his goal output.
The report claims Real Madrid are aware of these details because they were discussed with Los Blancos officials earlier this year.
Haaland was linked with a move to Real Madrid, but eventually opted to join Pep Guardiola at City. Madrid meanwhile would apparently have not agreed to the clauses, per the report.
However, Real are understood to be watching closely the progress of Haaland.
Karim Benzema, 34, remains Madrid’s focal point in attack. But they are aware he cannot go on forever and they are aiming to replace him in two years. Haaland and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe are the obvious candidates and leading the way to succeed the France star.
