Celtic, Rangers interest prompts Man City to batten down the hatches over outstanding midfield talent

Shea Charles Manchester City

Manchester City have little intention of allowing Shea Charles to leave the club this summer, following interest from some big clubs, TEAMtalk understands.

The 19-year-old midfielder became a full Northern Ireland international in the summer of 2022 and has impressed for the club playing in Premier League 2 this season.

And while Charles is yet to make his full debut for City he was on the bench for their Champions League clashes with RB Leipzig.

Coincidentally Leipzig are one of the teams who have shown an interest, along with Borussia Dortmund – but Charles is contracted to the club until 2027.

We also understand that Old Firm duo Rangers and Celtic are interested in a possible loan deal for the highly-rated midfielder.

Versatility is one of the things that makes Charles stand out, leading to other clubs showing significant interest.

Charles versatility a big asset

The teenager is also good enough to fill in at centre-back or full-back, although his preference is to play as a defensive midfielder.

Charles could yet get to make his Manchester City bow before the season is out though, with Pep Guardiola’s men still chasing a treble.

They booked their place in the FA Cup final on Saturday by cruising to victory over Sheffield United.

City are also five points behind leaders Arsenal with two games in hand in the race for the Premier League title and have the small matter of a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on the horizon too.
