Man City star in line for £65m transfer this summer despite huge contract offer

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus could secure a £65million transfer to Italy this summer, according to a report – despite Pep Guardiola’s side doing their best to keep him.
Journalist Jorge Nicola claims Jesus will be offered a new contract in the next few months, with his current terms set to expire in 2023. And City are even willing to double his wages from £90,000 to £180,000 per week.
The Brazil international was recently linked with a return to his home country. Sao Paulo outfit Palmeiras were thought to be in the mix to complete a deal.
But Nicola states there is ‘zero’ chance of Jesus moving back to South America. Despite this, an Etihad exit may still be on the cards.
With City closing in on the capture of Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Jesus is likely to fall down the pecking order later this year.
He needs to play regularly to make Tite’s Brazil squad for the Qatar World Cup. And a major Italian club is on hand to offer him that chance.
Gabriel Jesus wanted in Italy
According to the Daily Star, Juventus want to take Jesus off City’s hands. They believe a £65m bid will do the trick.
Juve spent upwards of £58m in January to land Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina. It seems they want to partner Jesus with the winter arrival, making Alvaro Morata surplus to requirements.
Jesus’ record for the current campaign stands at six goals and nine assists in 28 matches. He faces competition for places from the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish. That means he is unlikely to ever become the main man up front while in Manchester.
City spent £27m to bring Jesus to the Premier League over five years ago. That means a sale worth £65m would make plenty of sense.
Jack Grealish talks trophy hunt
Meanwhile, Grealish has been speaking about City’s hunt for silverware this season.
During an interview with club media, the England attacker said: “We’re in a good place at the moment; we’re top of the league, we’re in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, and obviously the same with the Champions League as well. So, I think, as a team and myself, we’re in a good place just now.
“Most of the lads here, they’ve won everything, numerous times as well. So, I think that the Champions League is the one that everyone wants this year.
“Obviously, it’s brilliant if we can go and win every competition that we’re in, but I think that being one that we haven’t won yet, I think that’s what we have our eyes on.”
Grealish also spoke about his debut season with City and his record in front of goal…
