Pep Guardiola will be delighted after finding out Paris Saint-Germain have dropped their interest in key Manchester City player Bernardo Silva, ruining Kylian Mbappe’s hopes of reuniting with the playmaker in the French capital.

Silva’s future at the Etihad has been uncertain for some time now. While his contract with City runs until June 2025, Silva has flirted with the idea of a transfer by publicly stating his desire to take part in a new challenge at some point in the future.

The attacking midfielder’s comments have resulted in interest from PSG and Barcelona. PSG sporting adviser Luis Campos has been trying to take Silva to Ligue 1. Campos knows him well as he was instrumental in the player signing for Monaco back in summer 2017.

And on August 13, it emerged that Mbappe wants to reunite with Silva at PSG following their successful time together at Monaco.

After previously deciding he would not extend his contract, Mbappe has completed a U-turn and is now open to staying at the Parc des Princes for a few more seasons. But one condition is that PSG do all they can to land Silva.

Sky Sports have now provided an update on the situation via their live transfer centre (21/08 at 12:43). In some fantastic news for Guardiola and City, they state that PSG ‘have given up’ trying to sign Silva.

This is because they ‘accept and respect’ the fact the 29-year-old is not for sale at City. Plus, PSG officials are anticipating Silva will pen a new long-term deal with City.

Of course, there is still the potential for Barca to bid for Silva. However, the Spanish giants are unlikely to have the funds needed to get City to sell.

Pep Guardiola close to Man City ‘dream’

On Saturday, Guardiola admitted it is his ‘dream’ for both Silva and defender Kyle Walker to agree new contracts with last season’s treble winners. And that now looks set to happen.

Earlier this summer, Bayern pushed hard to capture Walker after finding out he had become slightly frustrated with his lack of game time under Guardiola.

However, the manager has convinced Walker that he remains a crucial part of his plans. This has prompted the England international to reject Bayern and remain with City by sorting out fresh terms.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has told City what they must do to sign a Bundesliga hotshot before Liverpool and Arsenal.
