Oleksandr Zinchenko becomes ‘main target’ for Prem club as trusted source reveals why Man City want to sell

Fabrizio Romano states Oleksandr Zinchenko is a ‘main target’ for a Premier League club this summer, while also revealing why Manchester City are happy to sell him.

Zinchenko has been on Manchester City’s books since July 2016. After a loan spell at PSV in 2016-17, he has become an important player for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

The Ukrainian has proven his ability to play as a left-back, left midfielder or central midfielder. Due to this, he is often relied on by Guardiola when other players pick up injuries.

Zinchenko featured 28 times last season as Manchester City won the Premier League title by a point and reached the Champions League semis, where they lost to eventual winners Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old’s City contract lasts until June 2024. But he could secure an early exit as Premier League teams are queuing up to secure his signature.

Previous reports have put Newcastle, Arsenal and West Ham on Zinchenko’s trail. But according to Italian journalist Romano, the defender is one of Everton’s ‘main targets’ for the summer.

He adds that other clubs are ‘keen’ as well, but these are not named in the tweet.

Romano has also explained why City are happy to let Zinchenko move on, despite his importance to Guardiola.

Marc Cucurella to affect Oleksandr Zinchenko future

The reigning Prem champions are big admirers of Brighton left wing-back Marc Cucurella and wish to snare him before next season.

Romano says capturing Cucurella will allow Zinchenko to leave, as the former will effectively replace Zinchenko in the City squad.

An official bid from City for Cucurella will emerge ‘soon’. The outcome of this is highly likely to impact Zinchenko’s future.

If City are able to strike a deal with Brighton early on, then 52-cap international Zinchenko can go.

But if Brighton hold out for more than City are offering, then this could complicate Everton’s hunt of Zinchenko.

Cucurella would be a fantastic signing for the Citizens. He recently won the Brighton Player of the Year award after a fantastic season under Graham Potter.

Cucurella only joined the Seagulls last summer, but he is already being lined up for a big move to City.

Zinchenko, in contrast, would benefit from going down the Premier League table to link up with Everton. He would get more game time at Goodison Park.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has spoken about his transfer from City to Southampton. The Irishman will help to fill the gap left by Fraser Forster at St Mary’s.
