Panicked Man City make last ditch effort to prevent key starter’s exit, as transfer fee and reason for leaving emerge

Man City stars Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne

Man City have entered into talks over a new contract with a regular starter, though reports claim an exit is ‘advanced’ and steaming towards the finish line.

News from Germany on Sunday afternoon revealed Man City could be on the cusp of losing the ever-dependable Kyle Walker.

The 33-year-old has one more year left to run on his current deal at the Etihad, though Bayern Munich are attempting to ensure Walker’s next campaign is played in Bavaria.

Indeed, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported the veteran right-back was in “advanced talks” with Bayern Munich.

Walker was labelled “keen” to join the Bundesliga champions, while a fresh update from Plettenberg has shed further light on the developing situation.

The reporter tweeted Bayern hope to finalise the deal with all haste and the club are “working on a total verbal agreement now”.

Bayern’s hope is a “possible package of €20m-€30m transfer fee – all in” can swing a deal their way.

Negotiations over the move are termed “ongoing”, and why Walker is willing to turn his back on a team who’ve just won the treble has come to light.

Indeed, Plettenberg stressed in both updates that the lure of playing for Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is proving key.

The former Chelsea manager is understood to be the “main driver” who has convinced Walker to ditch City.

Man City prepare last-gasp rescue mission

Despite Walker’s suitability to Pep Guardiola’s new 3-2-4-1 formation being questioned by Pep himself, Walker finished the season strongly and was selected to start in the FA Cup final victory over Man Utd.

He was dropped to the bench in the Champions League final against Inter Milan, though Walker has repeatedly proven himself capable of thwarting any opposition’s best left winger when called upon.

As such, he remains a key cog in City’s wheel and per Fabrizio Romano, the club have moved to prevent an exit.

The transfer guru tweeted Man City and Walker are currently in discussions over a new contract at the Etihad.

As such, Walker is holding talks with both City and Bayern at the same time. According to Romano, there is still a chance Walker pens fresh terms at the Etihad and performs a U-turn on the idea of joining Bayern.
