Phil Foden: Agreement reached over huge next deal, with spiralling terms revealed for Manchester City ace

Phil Foden has all but agreed an improved contract with Manchester City, the duration of which has been confirmed in a fresh report.

Manchester City have been working to secure Foden’s long-term future in recent months. The 22-year-old’s current contract is only due to run until 2024. Therefore, the Premier League champions have been trying to tie him down for longer.

Foden has established himself as a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side, despite his relatively young age. With his best years still ahead of him, it is clear to see why sorting his future has become a priority in Manchester.

Fortunately for Manchester City, there appears to have been a breakthrough in negotiations regarding his contract.

According to Football Insider, Manchester City have now secured an agreement in principle with Foden to extend his contract.

The new deal, which has supposedly been finalised but not yet announced, will see his wages significantly increase. Soon, Foden will be one of the highest earners in the Manchester City squad. The club will be paying him approximately £250,000 per week.

Those figures are even higher than recent estimations, which were already beginning to increase.

Should all go to plan, Foden will stick with Manchester City for a good while, too. According to the report – and as has been indicated elsewhere previously – Foden’s new deal will last for six years.

By the time it would be due to expire in June 2028, Foden would be in the prime of his career at 28 years old.

Having already won four Premier League titles and seven other domestic trophies, there could be many more achievements for Foden to be part of in that timeframe.

There is an expectation that fans will not have to wait too long to have the news about Foden confirmed. Currently, he is on international duty with England, for whom he will likely have a role to play at the World Cup in Qatar throughout November and December.

Perhaps it will be best for all parties that Foden’s long-term future might be clarified by that point. But as things stand, there seems to be nothing for Manchester City fans to fear when it comes to the attacking midfielder’s future.

Manchester City stay makes the most sense for Phil Foden

Given the way he has developed so far, it makes perfect sense for Phil Foden to continue at Manchester City.

He is already at one of the most powerful clubs in Europe, where he has achieved a lot. If he wasn’t playing much, it might have been another matter, but Foden’s role is only going to get bigger over time.

Guardiola has nurtured his talent well so far. Over the next few years, the head coach could be considering more ways to bring the best out of Foden.

What’s more, the improved salary will reaffirm to Foden how important he is becoming.

This new deal is looking more and more like a case of when, not if.
