Pogba linked with sensational switch as Man City enter picture for departing Man Utd star
Manchester City are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Paul Pogba when he leaves Manchester United this summer.
Pogba, 29, will fall out of contract next month and there seems little prospect of him signing fresh terms. The France international returned for a second spell at Old Trafford in August 2016. The Red Devis paid Juventus £89m for his signature but his second coming has not been an unqualified success.
There have been glimpses of the form he shows while playing for France. But the midfielder has also ‘gone missing’ on far too many occasions, failing to influence games as he should.
A few pundits have taken aim at the man with 91 Les Bleus caps. And it seems likely that there will be a parting of the ways in the off-season.
Despite his stock seemingly falling at United in recent seasons, a number of big clubs have been linked with a free transfer. Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus appear to be heading the race, with the Ligue 1 giants thought to be favourites.
But The Mail are suggesting City are also pondering whether to take a punt on the Frenchman.
Pep Guardiola is likely to lose Fernandinho ahead of 2022-2023 and wants to find a suitable replacement. And it may be that Pogba fits the bill.
Guardiola is said to have a number of targets in mind for the role, with Pogba now added to that wish-list.

City behind in Pogba pursuit
Having failed to agree new terms at the Theatre of Dreams, the schemer has been able to negotiate with foreign clubs since the turn of the year.
It seems likely there has been dialogue with PSG while the pull to Turin will be strong. Pogba played some of his best football for Juve and it was his form in Italy that prompted United to make their move six years ago.
Manchester City will not be able to make a formal offer to Pogba until the conclusion of the current campaign. It may be too late by then but the report claims the player has not ruled out the possibility of moving to the Etihad.
The move would be a highly controversial transfer as not too many players have crossed the divide between United and City. Pogba has not been the influential figure that United hoped since returning to the north-west giants.
It could be that he is better suited to playing in a different league. And it is open to debate as to whether the City faithful would welcome someone who has flattered to deceive while wearing the famous red shirt.
