Man City poised to table outrageous £80m offer including England international for Newcastle superstar

Newcastle players Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Fabian Schar

Manchester City are considering offering £80m along with one of their players for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.

The midfielder has arguably been the Magpies’ best player this season, with Eddie Howe’s team in with a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Newcastle obviously will not want to let one of their star players go easily, so it will be interesting to see how they respond to this approach from Man City.

As mentioned, the Tynesiders have enjoyed their best season for a long time under Howe, sitting just two points behind fourth-place Tottenham having played two games less.

Guimaraes has arguably been one of Newcastle’s best signings so far of the PIF era, after joining from Lyon for £40m last summer.

So far, the 25-year-old has featured 45 times across all competitions for the Magpies, scoring nine goals and making four assists in the process.

A dynamic midfielder, Guimaraes has the ability to play as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder, with his passing and tackling stats ranking among the very best in the Premier League.

With that in mind, it’s unsurprising to see Man City interested in him, but it will take a monumental offer for Newcastle to sell.

City set to offer £80m plus Phillips for Guimaraes

Now, according to the Daily MirrorMan City are reportedly willing to offer £80m plus out-of-favour midfielder Kalvin Phillips to Newcastle to seal a summer deal for Guimaraes.

The former Leeds star has endured an injury-plagued start to his career at the Etihad, after failing to start a single game in the Premier League this season.

Phillips has shown quality while playing for Leeds in the past and has also earned himself a regular spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad thanks to his performances.

However, Guimaraes has clearly been the far superior player and considering Newcastle don’t exactly need the money considering they are now one of the richest clubs in the world, it seems very unlikely that Howe will be convinced by this offer.

The news comes after Real Madrid were also credited with a strong interest in the Brazilian, so there is certainly no shortage of interest in his signature at the moment.

Perhaps the only reason that Guimaraes’ head would be turned is if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League. If that is something that he wants next season, he could look to force his way out of St. James’ Park.

But, when the midfielder signed for the Magpies he knew that this was a long-term project and so far he seems to be loving his time on Tyneside, so it would be a huge shock to see him join Man City this summer, despite the interest.
