Man City ace wanted by Arsenal admits he would be ‘open’ to shock move

A Man City attacker who has been heavily linked with Arsenal has issued a ‘come-and-get-me’ plea to the Gunners.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has a huge squad with plenty of talent in each position. While that is great for the Spaniard, it is not so good for the players who get left on the bench.

Defenders John Stones and Nathan Ake have rarely featured this campaign. They are struggling to usurp the centre-back partnership of Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte.

Midfield stalwart Fernandinho has seen his game time reduced since Rodri’s arrival in July 2019.

Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva, meanwhile, was expected to move on during the summer. He wants to become an integral first-team player at another big European club.

Those stars are often joined on the bench by England international Raheem Sterling. The 26-year-old impressed at Euro 2020, notching three goals, but his Man City spot is under threat from Jack Grealish.

Sterling has completed a full 90 minutes just once in the Premier League this term. He also featured for just three minutes during the recent 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Guardiola’s limited use of the winger has resulted in a number of exit links. Arsenal are hopeful suitors as Mikel Arteta knows the star well.

Barcelona are reportedly consider offering Ousmane Dembele to Manchester City return for Raheem Sterling, with more news on Donny van de Beek and Dusan Vlahovic.

Newcastle are also involved in the transfer race following their £305m takeover.

Sterling has now admitted that he would be willing to leave the Etihad. He said (via The Guardian): “If there was the option to go somewhere else for more game time I would be open to it.

“As an English player all I know is the Premier League and I’ve always thought: ‘You know, maybe one day I’d love to play abroad and see how I would come up against that challenge.’”

When pressed for more, the player added: “I’m not a person that’s going to complain. I’ve not tried to make it a bigger deal than it actually is. I get on with my work, do what I need to do, and I’m just raring to go. [Ready to be] playing football matches regularly. Scoring goals regularly.

“If football for me is not at a certain standard I’m not really at my happiest. If I want my happiness at a certain level I need to be playing football. I need to be scoring goals. And enjoying myself.”

Man City encouraged by latest striker development

City could be given the chance to sign a world-class striker in the summer of 2022.

Robert Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, believes the Etihad is a ‘potential destination’ for his client, as per German outlet Bild.

The Poland star would be a perfect replacement for Sergio Aguero up front. He is already on 13 goals for the season, after just ten appearances.

City attempted to bring in Harry Kane earlier this year but were knocked back by Tottenham. The north London club wanted a massive £160m for the England skipper.
