Man Utd misfit demands crunch Ten Hag talks as West Ham try to sign him, with David Moyes planning positional change

Man Utd trio Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga and Aaron Wan-Bissaka

West Ham United are firming up their plans for Aaron Wan-Bissaka if they are able to sign the defender from Manchester United, according to reports.

It looked as if Manchester United may have been just about done for the summer transfer window. After the arrivals of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro, the finishing touches to their transfer activity should be the additions of Antony and Martin Dubravka.

But there could yet be scope for Man Utd to modify their squad further. Another area they could adjust is at right-back, where Erik ten Hag is keen on a deal for Barcelona outcast, Sergino Dest.

For that to happen, though, the club must reverse their decision regarding Wan-Bissaka. It was recently claimed they had opted to keep him despite interest from elsewhere.

However, the opportunity to bring in Dest may prompt a change of those plans. With that in mind, the Daily Mail report West Ham are pushing for the signing of Wan-Bissaka before the deadline.

Interestingly, it has also come to light in the report that David Moyes could be signing Wan-Bissaka with a view to using him as a centre-back.

The former Crystal Palace youngster has developed as a right-back. Although he has earned more praise for his defensive attributes than those in the opposite phase, outings in the centre of defence have been a rarity.

West Ham have been shifting towards a back-three formation in recent weeks, though. Perhaps Moyes has a similar role in mind for Wan-Bissaka to the one Aaron Cresswell is occupying on the other side of the backline.

Naturally a left-back, Cresswell slotted in on that side of the back three during West Ham’s most recent fixture. Wan-Bissaka could undergo a similar evolution on the right.

Wan-Bissaka could add to central cover at West Ham

Indeed, West Ham already have Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson to rely on at right-back. Centrally, though, they have had a few more concerns about depth.

The Hammers have signed Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer this summer. However, the former is out with a long-term injury. There have also been physical issues for Angelo Ogbonna, while after the departure of Issa Diop, there are now exit links regarding Craig Dawson.

It means Kurt Zouma and Kehrer are practically the only certainties for West Ham defensively at the moment. Perhaps they could do with more help, but in an inventive way.

The report does not mention what kind of asking price Manchester United are looking for to get rid of Wan-Bissaka. Having cost them £50million in 2019, he is under contract until 2024, with the option of a further year.

But the pressure for a departure could increase in the coming hours. According to the Daily Star, Wan-Bissaka wants showdown talks with Ten Hag to see where he fits in the Manchester United manager’s plans.

Ten Hag has preferred Diogo Dalot to him at right-back so far. Now, the 24-year-old is seeking clarification over what it means for his own future.

If he learns that Ten Hag does not have a place in his plans for him – especially if someone else like Dest arrives – he will ask to leave on loan. If that cannot happen, he will wait until January before seeking a permanent exit.

Either way, it looks as if leaving Man Utd may be the best move for his career now. Time is still on his side if he gets a different platform elsewhere. West Ham will be hoping they could bring out his best.
