Man Utd ‘punish’ star who is hot topic at Carrington after dubiously missing training – report

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jadon Sancho Villarreal v Man Utd November 2021

Manchester United have reportedly sanctioned Aaron Wan-Bissaka after he failed to turn up to training on more than one occasion.

The right-back’s form has dropped off this season following his once stellar displays for United. In fact, he has struggled alongside a host of other Red Devils stars amid their patchy form this term.

Since interim manager Ralf Rangnick came in, pundits such as Gary Neville have criticised the body language of some of the players.

While the results have improved since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left, United have been told their performances could have been better.

But according to journalist Duncan Castles, Wan-Bissaka is now in the firing line for his actions off the pitch.

The right-back has missed United’s past four games. Rangnick confirmed in mid-January that the player was “still ill”. However, Castles has claimed that there is more to the story.

Castles said that the right-back has missed “a lot of training” sessions. He added that Wan-Bissaka’s reasoning does not conform with the usual practice. What’s more, other members of the squad are reportedly talking about the goings-on at United’s Carrington training base.

“I’m told that on at least one occasion he failed to turn up to training, citing illness as a reason, calling in to say that he was ill and that’s why he wasn’t coming in for training,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.

Wan-Bissaka sanctioned by Man Utd – report

“That’s very unusual at a football club. Generally if you have an illness you’ll come into the training ground, allow the club doctors to assess you, and then they make a decision in collaboration with the player as to whether you train and obviously the best way to get you healthy again to play.

“I’m told that he’s been disciplined by the club for failing to turn up to training.

“Other players have been told that there is a disciplinary issue involved, other players have commented on his attitude and issues there have been with him around the training ground.”

Rangnick said of Wan-Bissaka in January, ahead of the 3-1 win over Brentford: “He’s still ill, I’m afraid.

“He will not be available for the game and also probably not available for the West Ham game. Hopefully, after the international break, he will be back for training.”

But Rangnick made no specific comment on Wan-Bissaka’s progress in his most recent press conference on Thursday.

Lingard hits out at Rangnick

The report from Castles comes after Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard both hit out at Rangnick for his comments on their situations in recent weeks.

The two cases have raised debates about player power being a factor at Man Utd.

Rangnick claimed that Martial refused the opportunity to be in the squad for the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. Martial hit back, claiming that he would “never disrespect” the club.

And on Thursday, Rangnick said that Lingard asked for time off to “clear his mind” after his failure to get a move out of Old Trafford in January.

Lingard also snapped back, claiming that he will “always be professional”.
