Adrien Rabiot transfer latest: Divisive Man Utd pursuit implodes due to double obstacle put up by Juventus star

Adrien Rabiot in action for France

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot is stalling over a move to Manchester United due to two reasons, according to the latest from Italy.

Rabiot has emerged as a major target for Manchester United in recent weeks. Erik ten Hag would benefit from having more options available to him in midfield. For now, the partnership of Scott McTominay and Fred remains a frequent sight.

United have been planning to bring Rabiot in so they can address that area of the pitch. That said, their pursuit has not been met with total enthusiasm. Indeed, pundits have questioned Rabiot’s lack of influence when it comes to goals, among other concerns.

Yet the club have been working away at the deal. Negotiations with Juventus have been relatively easy due to the Serie A side’s desire to offload him. Convincing Rabiot, though, is turning out to be a different matter.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, a renowned transfer expert for Sky Sport Italia, the Frenchman is stalling over a move to Manchester United.

Di Marzio has revealed that there are a couple of obstacles blocking United from signing Rabiot. First, his wage demands are unreasonably high.

Next – and this is something they cannot change immediately – Rabiot is not convinced that Man Utd are the club for him due to their lack of Champions League involvement this season.

Therefore, the negotiations have seriously slowed down. It remains to be seen where United go from here. Do they work harder to convince him, or move on to someone else?

It is a dilemma they will need to answer sooner rather than later. There are just a couple of weeks remaining in the transfer window. If they do not strengthen their midfield before then – while also taking into account their willingness to offload James Garner, who could have been a decent depth option – then they could be light in that department for the next few months.

Interestingly, the Telegraph and the Athletic are also now reporting that the deal for United to sign Rabiot is close to collapsing.

Man Utd may be best off abandoning Adrien Rabiot – and should have all along

In all honesty, it could be a blessing in disguise for Man Utd. Even if they might not be able to attract the very best talents this year, they can still do better than him.

Rabiot would not justify the large salary he is seeking. United need to be smarter with how they invest in particular players.

Is Adrien Rabiot really the answer to Manchester United’s midfield woes?

With reports emerging that a fee has been agreed with Juventus for the Frenchman, is Adrien Rabiot really the answer to Manchester United’s midfield issues?

There could be long-term consequences to any move they get wrong. And the Rabiot deal looked like a questionable one from the start.

Perhaps they will still be keeping him at the back of their minds. But they should be taking this opportunity to consider more effective solutions.
