Agent confirms Man Utd have made offer for Serie A star destined to secure transfer this summer

Sofyan Amrabat and Rafael Leao, Fiorentina vs AC Milan

The agent of Serie A midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has confirmed that Manchester United submitted a bid for him earlier this year, with a move almost certain to happen in the summer.

Amrabat was fantastic at the Qatar World Cup, putting in some dominant midfield displays to help Morocco reach the semi-finals. He played in all six of Morocco’s matches as they became the first African and Arab nation to reach the last four of the tournament.

Unfortunately for Amrabat and his country, they were knocked out by France in the semis. But the impressive run meant several of Morocco’s players were backed for big January transfers.

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was linked with Manchester United and Aston Villa, while Amrabat’s midfield partner Azzedine Ounahi became a target for Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United.

Amrabat, meanwhile, has been linked with a host of Premier League teams, mainly Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs.

All three of those teams are supposedly looking to make midfield additions in the summer and were left impressed by the Fiorentina star’s performances at the World Cup. His form in Serie A has dipped since the Qatari tournament, but he still remains a top midfield operator in his own right.

Recently, Amrabat’s brother Nordin revealed that Man Utd, Barcelona and Chelsea all sent Fiorentina proposals for the 26-year-old. During an interview with ESPN, he said: “The [Fiorentina] chairman said during the World Cup, ‘we are not going to sell Sofyan Amrabat’. I thought he said that to get the jackpot.

“There was a lot of interest, but Sofyan only wanted to leave for a top team. A lot of information was received from England and those clubs could also pay substantial transfer fees.

Agent confirms Man Utd interest in Sofyan Amrabat

“I can name three clubs that were really concrete in the last days [of January]. Manchester United came in the last two days. They wanted to loan him, with an option to buy. That fell through, because Fiorentina didn’t want that.

“Barcelona also came with a loan offer, three days before the transfer market closed. But due to the financial problems they could not offer a mandatory option to buy. And the third was Chelsea.”

And those claims have now been backed up by Amrabat’s agent. In an interview with Kora Plus (via Sport Witness), Amrabat’s representative Mohammed Sinouh said:  “Yes, we received more than one offer during the last winter transfer period, and on top of that was an offer from Manchester United, but the negotiations were not completed at the time.”

While Man Utd were unable to sign Amrabat in January, they should be able to get him this summer. Sinouh added:  “At the moment, we don’t have any offers for the exit of Sofyan Amrabat, but Fiorentina welcomes the player’s departure in the summer, especially after obtaining a promise from the club president to do so when he rejected the offers in the winter transfer period.”

The player’s Fiorentina contract expires in June 2024, and he is unlikely to pen an extension. Therefore, it makes for the Italian side to sell Amrabat at the end of the season while they can still make some money back on him.

Man Utd could enter talks with Fiorentina, although there will also be interest from Liverpool and Spurs, plus some of Fiorentina’s Serie A rivals.

Meanwhile, a report has revealed which five players Man Utd have put up for sale ahead of the summer window opening.
