Agreed Man Utd transfer announced, with medical booked for Saturday after £8.6m fee reveal

Bruno Fernandes, Fred Man Utd v Barcelona

Manchester United have announced the upcoming sale of Fred to Fenerbahce after reports revealed how they will be paid for the Brazil international.

Fred has been a Man Utd player since 2018, but his spell at Old Trafford is now coming to an end. The club have announced that Fenerbahce have reached an agreement in principle to buy him.

Reports had already revealed that Man Utd would earn €15m (£12.9m) from the sale, but it has since emerged via sources such as Fabrizio Romano that the up-front payment will be €10m (£8.6m), with the rest being made up of add-ons.

In a statement on their website, Man Utd confirmed Fred would be on his way to Turkey tomorrow.

The announcement began: “Manchester United can confirm an agreement in principle has been reached with Fenerbahce for the transfer of Fred.

The Brazil international is set for a switch to the Turkish Super Lig, subject to a medical, agreeing personal terms and receiving international clearance to process the move.

Our no.17 is scheduled to fly out to Istanbul on Saturday, in order to take his medical tests.”

Fred about to end Man Utd career

As can be inferred from the wording, the transfer is by no means a given, since there are still several steps to clear. However, things should accelerate once Fred touches down in Turkey.

He will leave Man Utd after the busiest season of his career, in which he earned 56 of his 213 appearances for the club.

The 30-year-old is now due to undertake a new challenge with Fenerbahce, who are currently in the qualifying rounds for the Europa Conference League.

Their squad already contains several former Premier League stars such as Edin Dzeko, Joshua King, Michy Batshuayi and Dusan Tadic.

Fred is now set to join them after Man Utd signed Mason Mount and have targeted Sofyan Amrabat to further strengthen their midfield.
