Alejandro Garnacho: Man Utd fear losing ‘decisive’ prospect to elite destination he feels ‘very attached’ to

Manchester United might be bracing themselves for interest in promising winger Alejandro Garnacho, with the latest reports naming him as a target for one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Garnacho has been enjoying a bit of a breakthrough in recent weeks. After making two appearances last season, he has already been used eight times this term. Man Utd have been reaping the rewards of Erik ten Hag’s faith in the youngster, who has returned two goals.

Most recently, Garnacho got the winner in stoppage time of a Premier League match against Fulham. Since the action has been paused for the World Cup, there has been plenty of speculation about his future.

Man Utd only have Garnacho under contract until the end of the season. Therefore, they are understandably looking into a contract renewal.

The Argentina under-20 international is potentially in line to receive a wage worth 10 times as much as he currently earns. However, he might have some other appealing options to take into consideration too.

For example, it is now being claimed by Relevo that Real Madrid have him firmly on their radar as they look to construct a squad full of the stars of tomorrow.

According to the report, Garnacho’s profile “resonates” with what Real Madrid are looking for. They have noticed his “decisive” impact for Man Utd.

Perhaps worryingly, the interest is mutual. Garnacho was born in the Spanish capital and previously played in Atletico Madrid’s academy. Hence, he is “very attached” to the city.

Therefore, Man Utd will have to hold further talks with his representatives to convince them that Old Trafford is the place to be right now.

Alejandro Garnacho should opt for Man Utd stay

In all honesty, Garnacho should still be leaning towards staying in Manchester.

He has a genuine chance of cementing his place in the side as Ten Hag’s attack evolves following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

As a left winger, he does have to compete with Marcus Rashford. But he has arguably already been in better form than Jadon Sancho, who is now being linked with a departure to Chelsea.

In contrast, at Real Madrid, the level of competition would increase even further. Vinicius Junior is currently their main left winger. Only 22 years old himself, the position could be nailed down for the next decade.

While it is true that Garnacho doesn’t have an unclear path to being a regular starter with United – especially if they add Cody Gakpo to their squad too – he should be making the most of the opportunities he is getting there now.

Although he would be comfortable in Madrid, it might be unwise to leave behind what he is building in Manchester at the moment.

The ball is in his court due to his contract situation. In theory, Real could sign him to a pre-contract agreement for next season in January. Therefore, time is of the essence for Man Utd. They will be hoping he repays their confidence in him by committing.
