Classy Man Utd starlet Alvaro Fernandez poised to join list of full-back departures

Manchester United are considering sending talented 19-year-old left-back Alvaro Fernandez on loan for the 2022/23 season.
Fernandez was rewarded for his progress in the youth teams with a call-up to the first-team squad in April. Ralf Rangnick invited Fernandez, Alejandro Garnacho and Shola Shoretire to train with the senior players.
Fernandez did not make an appearance in the Premier League, but he was on the bench for the final four games. He also played three times for the U23s in the EFL Trophy.
His pace and defensive strength one-on-one have seen the Spanish defender progress nicely at Old Trafford. But the youngster, who arrived from boyhood club Real Madrid in the summer 0f 2020, will find it hard to get chances in the first team.
Luke Shaw is United’s first-choice left-back, but the addition of Tyrell Malacia will put Fernandez further down the pecking order.
And, according to the Manchester Evening News, United are now “open” to sending the player on loan.
Manchester United have agreed a deal in principle worth £12.9m with Feyenoord for Malacia.
L’Equipe report Malacia, 22, has decided to join the Red Devils after snubbing an approach from Lyon.
And the impending transfer will likely see Fernandez sent on loan to get some experience.
Two others to join Alvaro Fernandez out the door
The full-back is in no hurry to leave and he does look set to go on United’s pre-season tour. It’s then that Erik ten Hag will most probably decide whether Fernandez is a prime candidate for his first loan deal.
United’s U23 Player of the Year is, per the source, already interesting a number of clubs from Championship.
He was also the subject of interest from a plethora of second-tier clubs in January, according to the PA’s Simon Peach.
United though blocked all exits for the player such was his move up the ranks at Carrington. But the arrival of Malacia looks set to push the youngster to an exit albeit on a temporary basis.
The Times claims fellow full-backs Alex Telles and Brando Williams will also be moved on at Old Trafford
Meanwhile, Will Fish, 19, has signed a new long-term contract a year after making his senior debut for the club.
