Amad Diallo holds talks with Erik ten Hag as stance on Manchester United return emerges

Manchester United could loan Amad Diallo out for the second season in a row after a reporter revealed he has held talks with Erik ten Hag.

Man Utd signed Diallo from Atalanta in January 2021 after missing out on Jadon Sancho the previous summer. In the months between then and Sancho’s eventual arrival, though, Diallo did little to make his case for a regular role.

There were only eight appearances – including three in the Premier League – for Diallo in his debut campaign. He scored once, which was against AC Milan in the Europa League.

Opportunities were even more limited during the first half of the 2021-22 campaign, by which point original target Sancho had finally made the move to Manchester. Diallo played just once before being sent on loan to Rangers for the remainder of the season.

While up in Scotland, Diallo got more gametime. He played in 13 matches for beaten Europa League finalists Rangers. During those appearances, he scored three goals.

However, a recent report cast doubt on the chances of Diallo staying with Rangers. It seems he could be returned to sender, leaving Manchester United with a decision on their hands.

The 19-year-old is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025. There is time for them to work out the best course of action for the Ivory Coast international.

It will be up to Diallo and new manager Ten Hag to come to a decision. Several players could make way as the Dutchman inspires a new era at Old Trafford.

Time will tell whether or not Diallo is part of his plans. But according to journalist Fredrik Filtvedt, the pair have already been in talks.

It has emerged that Diallo would be interested in heading out on loan again in the opportunity is right. Yet there has been no final decision.

Filtvedt tweeted: “Amad Diallo naturally wants playing time and is open for another loan. Has been in dialogue with Ten Hag, but nothing decided yet.”

Man Utd must pick Amad Diallo destination carefully

Where exactly the winger may end up if he does head away on a temporary basis remains to be seen.

The upcoming season will be an important one for Diallo’s development. Man Utd must get their strategy right for the youngster if he is to become useful to them in future.

Finding a destination to provide regular gametime would be ideal. They will therefore have to consider which proposals come their way.

Staying at United would not seem to be wise, though, given the competition for places he could face. Hence, it may be up to Diallo to prove his worth elsewhere.
