Curious talk of a Man Utd move for Amir Rrahmani has been shut down after the Napoli star’s agent revealed what’s swaying his decision.
The Kosovo centre-half, 28, has become a key component at Napoli this season. Rrahmani has formed a formidable partnership alongside Kalidou Koulibaly with Napoli now just one point off Serie A leaders AC Milan.
Yet surprise talk of a move to Manchester United had made its way into the media in recent weeks.
Sport Witness reference the speculation, though acknowledge it never found a home in any major outlets.
That was a sign it had its roots in gossip rather than fact, and one look at United’s squad indicates why.
United signed Raphael Varane last summer and Harry Maguire won’t be leaving anytime soon despite his well publicised struggles this season.
Victor Lindelof is a dependable third-choice, while Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are also on the books.
Nonetheless, the links between Man Utd and Rrahmani caused a stir in his homeland of Kosovo.
That in turn led to his agent, Adrian Aliaj, speaking out on a potential move.
Napoli are close to guaranteeing Amir Rrahmani demand
In doing so, Aliaj stressed interest in his client is widespread, though could not directly confirm United were among them despite namechecking the club.
Regardless, he insisted Rrahmani remains “happy” in Naples and revealed his desire is to play in the Champions League.
That is something Napoli look certain to have on offer next season – unlike Man Utd.
“Is there interest from Manchester United? There’s interest from many clubs,” said Adrian Aliaj.
“The player is under contract with Napoli and feels happy there.
“Amir wants to play in the Champions League and Napoli are very close to guaranteeing him that.”
If there was any truth to the Rrahmani to Old Trafford talk, his agent has quashed it before it ever got going.
