Fulham have agreed a deal in principle to sign Andreas Pereira from Manchester United, with the Red Devils now reportedly awaiting the midfielder’s decision.
While the focus is on new signings at Old Trafford, there is a rebuilding process going on at the club. In fact, four midfielders are definitely leaving the club, with one player’s new challenge already sealed.
Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic are all on the way out. However, only Matic has his transfer secured, with the Serbian moving to Roma.
Despite a host of midfield players already leaving Man Utd, though, Pereira is another who could go. The Brazilian has been on loan in both of the past two seasons.
United initially hoped that Flamengo would take a permanent punt on Pereira. However, that deal route has faded in recent days.
According to journalist Marcelo Hazan, though, Fulham have stepped in and fancy a deal for the 26-year-old.
The Cottagers have offered €10million (£8.6million) up front with €3million (£2.5million) in further bonuses. And the reporter adds that that sum has proved enough to spark an agreement in principle with the Red Devils.
It is therefore now up to Pereira to make up his mind over his future. He could stay at Old Trafford and try to find game time, hope Flamengo come back in with an offer – or move to Fulham.
Pereira’s loan deal with Flamengo officially ends later this week, from which point he will have one year left on his contract.
It would consequently be in United’s best interests to sell him this summer – if he wants to go – to avoid losing him for free next summer.
Previous reports claimed that Pereira could get a second chance at Man Utd.
New manager Erik ten Hag needs more options in midfield. However, the focus has now turned instead to a fresh signing in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
What’s more, the Daily Mail adds that United are willing to listen to offers for Pereira.
Andreas Pereira needs Prem move
Pereira made his way into the United first team in the 2018/19 season under Jose Mourinho and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He subsequently made 25 Premier League appearances in 2019/20 to add to his 15 from the campaign before.
Since then, though, he has been on loan at Lazio and then Flamengo. And it looks like Ten Hag wants fresh faces into his midfield rather than using Pereira and the other fringe options.
Nevertheless, a move to Fulham could end up being a solid transfer for him.
The Cottagers are returning to the Premier League and will want to do better than the last time they earned promotion, when they went down after only one season.
If Pereira signs and can prove a solid influence in the midfield, he could make a name for himself and advance his career.
