Man Utd place price tag on returning Andreas Pereira despite Ten Hag deliberation

Andreas Pereira could get a chance to stake his claim for a Manchester United return during pre-season despite a price tag being set and two suitors lurking.
It has been a difficult couple of years for the stability of Pereira’s career. After earning his place as a fairly dependable squad man for Manchester United, he has had to endure a couple of loan spells away.
First, he spent the 2020-21 season with Lazio, but only started three Serie A games. Then, he spent 2021-22 back in his native Brazil with Flamengo.
Technically, his spell with them straddled two campaigns in Brazil. During the first, he started 16 league games and scored five goals. In the current campaign, he started a further five league matches.
But he is now ready to return to Manchester United at the end of his 12-month spell in South America. His contract back at Old Trafford only has 12 months left to run on it.
As such, he is at a crossroads in his career. Flamengo had the option to buy Pereira, but are unlikely to activate it. Therefore, he must find a new solution.
According to ESPN, one club that could look to take the midfielder is Fenerbahce.
Interestingly, the Turkish club are managed by ex-Flamengo boss Jorge Jesus. However, he had left the Brazilian outfit by the time Pereira signed up for them.
Yet they could get the chance to work together if United are willing to do business.
Another option for Pereira would be Benfica, who could take him to Portugal for the first time in his career.
The report from ESPN claims United would be asking for around £8m to sell Pereira. That said, they may not even sell him at all.
Andreas Pereira might be worth a chance
Correspondent Rob Dawson reveals that new Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag will give Pereira a chance in pre-season.
During his youth career, Pereira spent some time with PSV Eindhoven. Concurrently, Ten Hag was the assistant manager of the Dutch side.
Pereira never debuted in the Eredivisie, instead moving to Man Utd in 2011 and making his first senior bow three years later. However, Ten Hag could now take a look at the more senior version of the Belgian-born player.
Pereira’s position of midfield is the one that Man Utd most need to strengthen this summer. They are losing Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
As things stand, they will only have Fred and Scott McTominay as central midfielders. It could be up to loaned-out players like Donny van de Beek and Pereira to return and help fill the void.
As Dawson notes, Ten Hag wants to improve his midfield, but has been advised that he will have to work with the best of what he has already got, too.
Therefore, there could be a chance for Pereira, at the age of 26, to add to his 75 appearances in the red shirt.
