Andreas Pereira transfer latest: Crystal Palace connection poses intriguing Fulham dilemma

Andreas Pereira

Crystal Palace could be another contender for the signature of Andreas Pereira despite the Manchester United midfielder being close to Fulham, according to reports.

Pereira last played for Manchester United in August 2020, subsequently going out on loan to Lazio and then Flamengo. His spell in Brazil with the latter is now into its final few days.

During his time with Flamengo, the midfielder has made 49 appearances, scoring six goals. However, Extra are now reporting that they have “thrown in the towel” when it comes to their efforts to keep him on a permanent basis, or another loan.

Therefore, Pereira will be heading back to Manchester United to work out his next step. There were initially claims he could be reintegrated by Erik ten Hag, but a sale looks more likely.

Recently, promoted side Fulham were said to have agreed a deal in principle to sign him. Yet there would be a few steps for them to overcome first.

And one may be late competition from Crystal Palace, as hinted at by Extra.

The Brazilian source suggests Pereira’s entourage have gathered information on Palace, perhaps presenting them as an alternative suitor.

However, Fulham still seem to be in the lead for the 26-year-old’s signature. They should be signing him for a fee in the region of €13m (£11.2m).

Crystal Palace could be intriguing consideration for Andreas Pereira

Crystal Palace would be an interesting option for Pereira to consider. They had Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea last season, but are unlikely to be able to bring him back.

Therefore, there could be a space in their midfield to fill ahead of the new campaign. Pereira has Premier League experience, so would be a useful player to work with.

But Championship winners Fulham will also be looking to strengthen ahead of their return to the top flight. A player of Pereira’s pedigree would likely get a lot of gametime for them.

Either way, the time seems right for the Belgian-born ace to find a new permanent club this summer. Man Utd are changing their midfield options, so he could be another ready for a fresh start.
