Man Utd joined by Arsenal, Newcastle in battle for 16-goal Bundesliga winger

Moussa Diaby is of interest to three Premier League clubs thanks to his exploits for Bayer Leverkusen this season, according to one reporter in Germany.

Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger is reporting that Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United are in contention to sign Moussa Diaby. He has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, also providing nine assists.

He earned his senior debut for France back in September and so far has four caps. The former Paris Saint-Germain talent, who turns 23 in the summer, looks to be fulfilling his potential.

Now in his third season in Germany, Diaby has already reached double figures of goals. After scoring 10 times last season, he has surpassed his most prolific campaign.

Premier League clubs are taking note. Newcastle were recently linked and Berger confirms they are still in the hunt. Arsenal and Man Utd have both been credited with past, but less recent, interest too.

As things stand, it seems all three are on alert when it comes to Diaby’s future. The left footer is under contract with Leverkusen until 2025. However, they risk losing him before then.

Berger confirms there is no release clause in Diaby’s contract. It means Leverkusen are free to negotiate their own asking price. According to the update, that currently stands at €60m (which equates to approximately £50.6m).

But it seems the Bundesliga outfit are preparing for Diaby’s departure. As Berger relays, they are monitoring Carles Perez of Roma as a potential replacement.

Perez has featured very little under Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital this season. Therefore, the former Barcelona prospect could be available for a move.

It is unlikely Perez would cost anywhere near as much as Diaby either. Therefore, Leverkusen could be pulling off an economically beneficial deal. That said, Diaby’s price tag is higher for a reason and it would be a blow to lose what he brings to the team.

He has never played in the Premier League before, but that opportunity may soon be on the horizon.

Man Utd could look to replenish their attack in the summer. There are doubts over the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford, for example.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have plenty of money to spend after their Saudi-backed takeover. There is a feeling they want to sign another winger to ease the burden on Allan Saint-Maximin.

In Arsenal’s case, a return to Champions League football is looking more likely. Extra squad depth will be required in all areas of the pitch if they are to have another competition to juggle.

Diaby could be an exciting signing for whoever can get their hands on him. His potential buyers will have to fork out a significant sum to do so, though.
